Colchester Under 16s 39 points v Cambridge 12 points
Colchester, playing at Mill Road on the first team pitch, opened the scoring after 5 minutes, when centre Mo Osman went over following a back line move, and then converted his own try.
Cambridge dominated the next 15 minutes; sloppy defence allowed Cambridge in on the left for an unconverted try; they appeared to be in for a second, following a chip ahead, but an excellent scramble back from Dewi Llewellyn prevented the score. Colchester relieved the Cambridge onslaught, when hooker George Woodley won a scrum against the head within his 22; the ball was passed along the backs to speedy right winger, Tom Mayes, who took the ball on the 22 and sprinted the whole length of the pitch to touch down.
Colchester then had their best period of the game with a fluid whole pitch move put prop, Alex Packenham-Walsh in to bring up a half time score of 17-5.
Into the second half powerful No 8, Dan Francis picked up loose ball from a scrum to pounce over, Ollie Gill, on the wing added the next before centre, Liam Surgett, who had a fine match, made a long break to offload on the line to fellow centre Mo Osman, who touched down for his second try, which he converted.
Cambridge came back into the game, and their tricky scrum half dived in under the posts after jinking his way through a crowded defence, Cambridge converted. Ollie Gill sealed the match with his second try on full time, to leave a final score of 39-12 to the home side.
