Introduction.
Devon SoR set up in 2007 to identify the best players in the age groups U13/14/15 &16
in order to give them extra training from a set RFU Curriculum
with at least level 2 coaches and to ensure they progress to a representative
and professional standard by fulfilling their potential in the sport.
Devon’s SoR is a partnership that is managed by Devon RFU and
its success is entirely reliant on all of its partners.
We would like to thank Devon’s schools, clubs and the Academy for their support
and are looking forward to strengthening those links in the new season.
Only by continuing to strengthen these links can we ensure the maximum
progress of the young talent in the County.
The pathway into the SoR is through the U13/14 regional development squads.
which are set up in the four quarters of Devon.
The better players from schools and clubs will, in each of their own areas,
be invited to train with their local squad and have an opportunity to progress to the SoR.
The SoR is pleased to have been able to use the facilities provided by both
Exeter Chiefs and Plymouth Albion. Both of these clubs have offered to continue
this for the forthcoming season and we wish to thank them very much for their
kindness and look forward to working with them.
The SoR has worked closely with the RFUW.
The elite SW girls squad has been an integral part of our SoR
and it will continue to do so for the next season.
Hard work on the training pitch and good playing performances resulted in
four of the SoR students gaining representative honours last season.
Matt Kvesic won an England U 16 cap
and Ryan Mills, Addison Lockley and Korree Britton played for England “A”
In addition Devon U15 and U16 sides both won all but one of their inter county matches.
If there are any comments that you would like to make about the SoR,
please, in the first instance, contact one of the two centre managers,
Rob Taverner or Roger Smerdon.
Devon SoR Mission statement.
Devon SoR will work with the partners to create a high quality development
pathway for the most talented players to reach their potential.
First class selection and monitoring will be the foundation stone,
IT IS THE KEY-
The best coaches will be engaged to develop the players core skills
using the RFU’s curriculum.
Emphasis will be given to empowerment, leadership, self expression,
teamship, game management, humility
in order to create rounded individuals,
with the best opportunity to progress to representative and professional rugby.
Respect.
The whole ethos of the game of rugby football is built on respect,
for yourself and for others.
Your family, teachers, friends and coaches are all working for the same goals,
please respect them, even if their views are not always the same as your own -
Listen and learn!
Work hard to maintain and raise your personal standards by;`
Not taking short cuts at training,
Doing your school work immediately,
Doing your school work well, first time, every time,
Wearing your uniform with pride,
