A 'Mitie' close thing!
Wiltshire 12 - 10 Dorset
In an exciting and close last match of our season, we just lost out by 10-12 in a game of contrasting styles. The powerful Wiltshire pack dominated despite stand out performances from Craig Shaw, Dan Hull and Jack Lewis in the loose.
The exciting Dorset backs looked as if they were going to score every time they got the ball, but unfortunately they misfired in the areas of decision making and that final pass, coupled with a good Wiltshire scrambling defence.
Having opened the scoring with a try out wide by Alex Allen after 5 minutes, the Wiltshire No.10, using the wind advantage well, kept us back in our half for most of the first half, resulting in two tries for Wiltshire, the second of which was followed by a tremendous touchline conversion by the Wiltshire No.11. Half time came with Wiltshire 12-5 in the lead.
Unfortunately, despite more possession in the second half, we only managed one unconverted try (Sam Avery), although we were 'held up' over their try line on three other occasions.
The team gave 100% effort and the game was a good showpiece for both development sides.
Man of the Match for Wiltshire was their No.8 (Ben Elwell) and the Wiltshire coaching staff chose Sam Avery as Dorset's Man of the Match.
Thanks to Devizes RFC for hosting us (John in particular), to the three Dorset coaches Gwyn, Chris and Simon, captain Dan Hull and all the players.

'Mitie' Dorset up their performance in the third game of the season
Dorset 72 - 7 Somerset Warriors
The squad took on the Dorset & Wilts B fixture against Somerset Warriors.
A quick try from Charlie Green in the second minute led to an unusually nervy ten minutes where the season's knock-ons occurred. A penalty from Ollie Mottram made the score 10-0 and settled everyone down into the style of rugby seen in the previous two games. Three tries followed after good breaks by Alex Allen, Will Creasy and Matt Burvill. Somerset Warriors then scored a breakaway try just before half time. Half time 31-7.
Following seven changes, it took 15 minutes to unlock the Warriors' defence before seven further tries were scored in a last quarter of near perfect rugby. Final score 72-7.
Thanks to the coaches Gwyn, Chris, Ally and Barry, captain Rob Morton and all the players for successfully taking your performance level up a step from the initial two games.
Once again, thanks to Bournemouth RFC for acting as hosts and to Mr Wally Wright for presenting the accolades after the match.
Man of the Match, chosen by the Warriors' coach, was Craig Shaw.

'Mitie' Dorset edge it in tight game
Dorset 11 - 0 Berkshire B
Playing into the wind and with the sun in their eyes in the first half, Dorset managed to keep a determined Berkshire side, ably marshalled by their 10/12 axis, at bay. This was achieved by solid scrummaging, being first to the breakdowns by the back row of Andrew Bufton, Olly Jones and Alex Cochrane-Dyet, a couple of breaks upfield from Charlie Green at full-back and excellent tackling all over the pitch. Half time 0-0.
After defending successfully for the first five minutes, Dorset played the remainder of the second half of the game in the Berkshire half. Ollie Mottram was successful with two out of three penalty attempts, all given for infringements at the breakdown, as the back row continued to flourish. Five minutes from time, Berkshire failed to find touch from their 22, the ball was chipped down the line and Chris Hardy followed up to score the only try of the match. Final score 11-0.
With five changes made at half time, this was a good all-round squad performance against a tough side. Well done to the coaches - Gwyn, Chris, Simon; captain Ollie Mottram and the players.
Man of the Match, chosen by the Berkshire coach, was Alex Cochrane-Dyet.
Thanks to Bournemouth RFC for acting as hosts.

'Mitie' Dorset win convincingly on first outing
Cirencester 7 - 63 Dorset
The Dorset U15 Development Squad took on the Dorset & Wilts B fixture in Gloucestershire and played Cirencester at their home ground. The result was a resounding victory, 63-7.
The hard work was done by the forwards and the backs took the glory, running in 10 of the 11 tries scored, with 4 of the tries being converted. A great all-round performance, particularly with ball retention and offloads in the tackle. A mark of the quality of the coaching received was that 7 changes were made at half time, and there was no noticeable difference in the standard and style of play, witnessed by the fact that the Man of the Match award for Dorset, chosen by the Cirencester coaches, was Ollie Rayner, one of the 7 who came off the bench at half time.
Thanks to coaches Gwyn, Chris, Ally and Simon, captains Ryan Horan (first half) and Rob Morton (second half) and well done to the whole squad for an encouraging first performance.
Thanks also to all those involved on the day from Cirencester RFC for their generous hospitality.
