THREE PLAYERS SELECTED INTO ENGLAND U18 SOUTH WEST DIVIONAL SQUAD
The U18 South West Divisional trials were, once again, held on a wet and windy day in Bristol that often made handling difficult for players to show their skills effectively. However, by the end of the day the squad was announced and it was good news for three of the invited D&W players ....but not such good news for the other six.
I hope you will join me in congratulating the three players selected into the initial England U18 South West Divisional squad who were:

It was particulary sad for this seasons D&W U18 captain - Will Beach - as he sustained a serious leg injury whilst playing for his school just one week before the trial and, unfortunately, was not able to take part. I therefore hope all will join me in when sending commiserations to Will having got that far only to be so disappointed on the day and not being able to take part.
Fingers crossed that all selected players will take the last final hurdle in their stride and get selected into the England U18 squad based on their performances at the England Divisional Trials being held at Broadstreet RFC in Coventry over the weekend of 2-4 January 2009.
Thanks for the help of all involved in making this another succesfull season. In particular, thanks should go to all players and their parents / guardians as without their support this success would not have happened.
Have a great Christmas and a Happy and Succesful New Year
Regards

LIST OF PLAYERS INVITED TO ATTEND ENGLAND SOUTH WEST U18 DIVIONAL TRIAL
Following the final county match played on Tuesday 18th November, the England South West U18 Divisional Chair of Selectors – John Vaughan – announced the list of players that have been invited to attend the England U18 South West Divisional trial being held at Bristol Grammar School on Sunday 23rd November.
Around 45 players in total from all eight counties that make up South West Division have been invited to attend the trials and this total includes nine players who represented Dorset & Wilts U18’s this season. Putting this in perspective this equates to approximately 20% of the total list of invited players and 30% of the final D&W U18 selected squad .….which is an amazing achievement !!
Before listing the players in question, and on behalf of the D&W U18 coaching and management team, I would like to thank ALL players who took part in this seasons campaign….especially those not invited to attend the trials. Without their commitment we would have not had the team success that resulted and without the team success I am sure that some players would not have caught the selectors eyes.
Success breeds success and I hope that all players who represented D&W U18’s this season will feel extremely proud of the part they played in it no matter what level of rugby they go on to play.

Unfortunately this seasons campaign ended like some of the fireworks that got lit a few days later....a bit of a damp squibb ! Despite being hotly tipped to complete a two season undefeated run, Oxfordshire U18's took advantage of a damp and miserable day to finish winners by a small margin in something of what you could only call a 'scrappy' game. However, the match result is not the most important factor of the U18 campaign and it it hoped that a number of players will have impressed the South West Divisional selectors over the course of the three matches held.
The final match being viewed by selectors is being held Tuesday 18 November. Following this we should receive notification of who has been invited to the South West Divisional trials being held at Bristol Grammar School Sports Complex in Failand, Bristol on Sunday 23rd November. As soon as I have received this notification I will be in touch with all concerned to provide details of timings and directions.
I would personally like to thank all players for the commitment they have shown this season and wish everyone the best of luck with their future rugby career at whatever level they compete.
I would also like to thank the coaching team of John 'Topper' Brown, Simon Culley and Chris Stagg for another very succesful season and not forgetting the valuable help and assistance offered by Mal Lewis our Physio and Graham Lacey who always provides such valuable help during the chaos of the trial day.
Best regards
Glyn

Congratulation to all involved in the match last weekend against Berkshire at Pangbourne College. Although we got into a bit of a panic on occasions the overall confidence showed and we were worthy winners in the end running in six tries to Berkshire's total of three to end up 19-34 to Dorset & Wilts.
Congratulations to all involved and I am sure that the South West Selectors will have recognised that we have a squad made up of very talented individuals.....which will make their task even more difficult !
The final match of this seasons campaign is being held against Oxon at St Edwards School in Oxford on Sunday 2 November with a slightly changed kick off time of 2:30pm.
Directions to St Edwards school are as follows:
http://www.multimap.com/maps/?zoom=14&countryCode=GB&qs=OX27NN
From the M4: Leave the motorway at junction 13 and join the A34 northwards (signposted Oxford). Continue along this dual carriageway for approx. 26 miles to its intersection with the A44 (signposted Evesham, Woodstock). At the roundabout take the fourth exit (passing under the A34) and join the A44. Continue along this dual carriageway for a short distance and at the roundabout take the third exit into Woodstock Road. The entrance to the school is on the left after approx. 1 mile on the left-hand side but before you get there you need to turn right into the playing field and follow the round round to your left to the Douglas Bader Sports Hall. Park your car here and walk round the corner of the building to the left of the Sports Hall front entrance and you will find the entrance to the changing rooms - Please see plan of the school grounds by following this link - http://www.stedwardsoxford.co.uk//images/Files/schoolmap08.pdf
