Dear Telegraph
Thirst for rugby (from
the Daily Telegraph, June 9th 2004)
DEAR
SIR
When I played rugby many
years ago, if you wanted to play any game between May 1 and Sept 1 you had to
have the written authority of the Rugby Football Union.
How can the England squad
hope to maintain their position in world rugby when instead of having four
months off to recover, they will at the most have two or three weeks off after
playing to the end of May and then going on tour to the southern
hemisphere.
There is much to be said
for the rugby we played 40 years ago when, while always playing to win, we also
played to build up a thirst for the after-match activities.
