Welcome to Salcombe Rugby Club's home page.
Situated on the tip of the South Devon coast Salcombe is a renowned holiday destination and boasts many outdoor leisure pursuits.
The Rugby Club was founded in 1888 and the team had played on a number of sites until around 1940, when the Club purchased the land where matches are now played. But it was not until after World War 2 that work to establish a playing surface began, as the ground had been occupied by the American Forces, in the area on training excercises.
Many changes and improvements have been made since those early days and it is testament to the local community and a hard-working Committee that the Club is flourishing today.
The Club itself can be found nestling amongst the local housing estate at the `top o' town' and is excellently placed for the community to take advantage of it's facilties.
The Clubhouse has a licensed bar, ladies & gents WC, payphone, fully equipped kitchen and a large comfortably seated function area with smoke extraction, darts board and pool table. The big screen TV adds another dimension to watching the Internationals.
Separate changing facilities for four teams, including the home side, and two for Officials are second-to-none, with conveniences for ladies, gents and disabled on the Terrace an added bonus.
Match day viewing can be taken from the partially covered Terrace, the seated Grandstand or the warmth of the Clubhouse, where large picture windows overlook the pitch.
The Club, which can comfortably accommodate up to 125 people, is available for hire at very reasonable rates. Please address enquiries in person to the Bar Stewards, Paul & Yvonne Billings or telephone them on 01548 842639.
