CL London 46 – 3 Wandsworthians (15/11/08)
A late kick off due to congestion for the England game didn’t help but was by no means the reason we lost. CL (which stands for cheeky ladies by the way) were a very well drilled, fit and expansive side who were able to capitalise on their opportunities throughout the game
What is not told by the score line is that for a great number of patches throughout the game we were in a real contest. Possession was not dominated by the opposition and we had many opportunities in their 22. Unfortunately we were unable to convert them into tries, although a very well struck kick gave us some consolation for our efforts.
CL’s tries were mostly on the counter after some very good possession and territorial gain on our part. However, to their credit they ran good lines and showed superb support play to get through our determined backline defence. Defence was a high and low point for the Dubs with some great broken play tackling mixed with missed tackles and staggered lines.
Our stumbling point was not converting the possession we had. Some great breaks by Rob Tindall and Lee Mason allowed us possession 10 yards out that we were not able to capitalise on. A few injuries left us under strength and we were playing with 14 by the end. However, no excuses, they thoroughly deserved the win.
Match Verdict: Proud that we played hard throughout and nobody came off the pitch disappointed in the effort and determination they put in. Good stuff lads.
