Player registration for adult men is fundamental to the integrity of RFU competitions and is administered in accordance with the Adult Player Registration Regulations which are applicable throughout the season.  The paper based registration system will continue to be available to all clubs and will run alongside on line registration.

Please use the latest version of the Player Registration Form – Edition 20 (Updated October 2011) (PDF 427kB) to register your players.

Playing adult rugby at 17

Players who are 17-years-old may only play adult rugby, or train with other adults, if they have been assessed as capable to do so and the RFU Playing Adult Rugby Form (PDF 73kB) has been completed and signed, in accordance with RFU Regulation 15.1. It is not possible for a 17-year-old to play adult rugby unless this form is completed and signed, confirmation of which is in Section 3 of the above RFU Player Registration Form.

For player transfers, please use the Notification of Player Transfer Form (PDF 38kB).

The help and assistance of regional registrars is available from the RFU. The following download contains contact details of all local registrars (PDF 52kB).

Online Registration

The introduction of electronic application for effective registration provides an alternative method of registering your players. If online registration is used by a club the player will become effectively registered upon completion of the process in the same way as if he had been registered by the registrar under the current procedure.

In general terms electronic registration can be simply effected for:

  • Players who, at the date of registration, are not currently registered and there is no requirement to supply additional information to the registrar
  • Uncontracted players who are currently registered and there is no requirement to supply additional information to the registrar

Clubs will find the relevant instructions and procedures to enable them to use the facility on the RugbyFirst website or can obtain them in writing by contacting their regional registrar.

Online Support

A dedicated website helpdesk is available to support RugbyFirst users. The helpdesk will be operational on the following days and times:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 12noon – 8.30pm

The helpdesk can be contacted either by 'phone on 020 8831 6651 or by e-mail at rugbyfirstsupport@therfu.com. The target response time is 24 hours. In the first instance, users should contact their own Club Super-User.

Additional Online Requirements

Clubs wishing to use the online facility will be required to ensure the completed registration form is signed by the player to certify that the data is accurate and retain form for at least one year from the date of effective registration.

Player Contracts

To help clubs make contract arrangements with their playing staff, the RFU has drafted a number of model contracts.

International Clearance Documents

When moving between unions for playing reasons, it is necessary to attain IRB clearance. You should complete to relevant union's form when you are leaving to play in another union.  For example, complete the England form when moving from England to another union.
