Victory over Kenya means England Sevens finish day one of the Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens unbeaten.

Two first half tries from Flyde's Nick Royle got England off to a flying start with Ben Gollings (Gold Coast), Mat Turner (Bristol Rugby) and Worcester's Jake Abbott adding to the tally.

Kenya kept England on their toes throughout and within the first minute England were 0-5 behind, Kenya showing their pace by outrunning England the length of the field to score.

But Royle wasn't going to outdone by the Kenyan speedsters and showed his own turn of pace weaving in and out of defence to put England on the board. Gollings added the conversion, 7-5.

England were on the back foot again in the sixth minute losing possession from the restart for Kenya to go over but again failing to convert, 7-10.

At the buzzer England took their opportunity and it was Royle who made another scorching break from his own half to finish over the line, Gollings failed to kick the conversion but England went in at half time 12-10 up.

England were quick out of the blocks as the second half kicked off, and when Bristol’s Dan Norton intercepted a Kenyan pass he fed Abbott who touched down Gollings failed to convert anymore tries, but England had stretched their lead to seven points.

A solo effort from Gollings extended the lead, to 22-10 before Turner touched down his third of the day thanks to some good hands from the England backs.

England Sevens coach Ben Ryan said, "I'm really pleased with the guys today they've done really well, but it's a two day tournament and all that hard work could be undone tomorrow if we don't turn up in the quarter finals.

"I think they are all desperate to achieve and do well we have a hungry group of guys, I don't think they will be resting tomorrow because the real work starts then.

"We will meet the top sides tomorrow. It's going to be a difficult day in the office but potentially a really rewarding one."
