Midlands Under-18 Championship set for kick-off

  • Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire look to defend their title
  • Divisional Festival to be held in Leeds from January 2 to 4

Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire will begin their defence of the Midlands U18 Championship with a trip to Syston to face Leicestershire in this season’s opening round of matches on Wednesday September 23 (7.30pm).

NLD won the title last season when they beat North Midlands in the final at Broadstreet last November, sending North Midlands to their first defeat in the competition in two years.

Staffordshire host Warwickshire at Burntwood in the other match on September 23 with North Midlands making their first appearance in the competition on October 7 when they travel to Broadstreet to play Warwickshire.

All six Midlands counties will compete in the annual Super Sunday event on November 1 after which a squad will be named by the Midlands selectors for the Midlands Divisional Assessment Day at Loughborough GS on November 15.

This season’s Divisional Festival will be held in Leeds from January 2 to 4 and will be attended by the England Under-18 selectors.

Midlands Under-18 Championship fixtures 2009/10:

September 23: Leicestershire v Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire at Syston, Staffordshire v Warwickshire at Burntwood.

October 7: East Midlands v Leicestershire at Stockwood Park, Warwickshire v North Midlands at Broadstreet.

October 21: NLD v East Midlands at Newark, North Midlands v Staffordshire at Stourbridge.
