- Upminster Rugby Club support White Ribbon Day campaign against domestic violence
- Partnership with Havering Council's Community Safety Service to raise awareness
Upminster Rugby Club, in partnership with Havering Council’s Community Safety Service, have pledged their support to White Ribbon Day (November 25), which supports the campaign to reduce domestic violence and raise public awareness of the issue.
Across the UK, men are taking a stand against violence and pledging never to commit, condone or remain silent about domestic violence.
Upminster’s first team, with their coach Scott Murphy, wore the White Ribbon on their kit for their London 3 North East match at Bancroft RFC.
Murphy, who is also an RFU community rugby coach in Essex, said: "We were approached by Havering council to see if we would support this important campaign and we were keen to do so.
A public stand against domestic violence
"Real men don’t use violence towards women or partners and by getting other men to see rugby players publicly making a stand we hope to give a clear message that this behaviour is unacceptable."
Tarj Sehangera, Havering Council’s strategic lead on domestic violence, added: "I would like to thank Scott and the team for their very public support for this campaign.
"The involvement and commitment of Upminster Rugby Club provides important role models and a strong message to those who would use violence within the home."
