- England start defence of New Zealand Sevens title with three victories
- Wins over USA, Tonga and Kenya set up cup quarter final with Canada
England Sevens got off to the best possible start in their quest to retain the New Zealand Sevens title today by topping a tough pool with three wins.
Ben Ryan’s side started the day with a 31-7 victory over USA, with Bristol’s Matt Turner grabbing a brace of tries.
England then narrowly saw off Tonga with four different players registering, including London Wasps and England Under 20 wing Christian Wade.
Blackheath’s Dan Caprice was the next to star as he scored a double in England’s 24-10 win over Kenya.
England will face Canada in tomorrow’s cup quarter final but last season’s New Zealand Sevens champions will be without skipper Kevin Barrett (Saracens) through injury.
The Canada quarter final kicks off at 3.17pm tomorrow local time (GMT+12).
