Man of the match James Haskell says England’s reaction to Wales’ comeback on Saturday is evidence of the team’s improved mentality and their desire to work for each other.

Wales closed from 20-3 down to 20-17 late in the second half before Haskell’s second try of the match clinched England’s victory.

The Stade Francais flanker said: "As a squad we really work for each other – our ethos is that no player is alone. We’re building something here – we’ve stuck together even when people have looked at us sceptically. I feel we’re starting to show what we really can do."

"In the past at 20-17, we may have lost games like that. But our reaction showed our determination and our desire to get back onto the front foot immediately. Our mentality’s really improved and the management have created a positive, winning atmosphere."

On his maiden Test tries, Haskell added: "I’m pleased from the team’s perspective more than anything else – I was simply on the end of two great team moves to score my tries. I’m obviously delighted though, as these are my first international tries in 22 matches – hence I thought it rude not to celebrate with a jig."

Fellow try scorer Danny Care echoed Haskell’s sentiments and said the win can breed the confidence to allow England to perform to their full capabilities.

The Harlequins scrum half was a constant menace to Wales with his darting runs and stunned the visitors with a clinical finish at the start of the second half.

Paying tribute to the back row of James Haskell, Lewis Moody and Nick Easter, he said: "It really helped my game that the back row were fantastic today – they gave me some great ball. We need to stick to our game plan in the future, like we did for large parts of today. Of course we’re well aware, though, that there are still four big games to come."

"It was so nice to cross the try line – especially in the Centenary game at Twickenham in front of more than 80, 000 fans. There were a few nerves in the squad following the autumn, but a win like this will really help us start to perform to our full potential. Let’s hope we can continue to build from here."
