- Borthwick has failed to recover from knee injury
Leicester Tigers flanker Lewis Moody will captain England for the first time in the RBS 6 Nations against France in Paris after Steve Borthwick failed to recover from his knee injury.
Saracens lock Borthwick had a scan on his left knee yesterday but has not sufficiently recovered from the knock taken against Scotland at Murrayfield last Saturday.
Leicester Tigers lock Louis Deacon is promoted from the replacements bench to the starting 15 and his place is taken by Tom Palmer (Stade Francais).
Moody will lead England for the first time on the occasion of his 61st cap.
The 31-year-old was named England’s man of the series during the Investec Internationals and has featured in every game of the 2010 RBS 6 Nations campaign.
