Youngs eager to grab England chance

  • Ben Youngs speaks to RFU TV about his meteoric rise
  • Leicester scrum half says rapid progression to England debut has been amazing

Ben Youngs is thrilled to have sampled the pressure and intensity of international rugby and is now determined to cement his place in the England Elite Player Squad.

After impressing for England Under 20 and England Saxons, the Leicester Tigers scrum half’s rapid rise continued when he made his senior debut off the bench against Scotland at Murrayfield.

The 20-year-old is now preparing to face France in Paris and told RFU TV he is relishing the opportunity.

He said: "The pressure, hype and intensity is huge and I’ve really been enjoying the new challenge.

"Since getting a start for Leicester against South Africa I’ve managed to progress and things have kicked on so fast it’s been amazing.

"When you run out and sing the national anthem it’s a hugely emotional time and you try and take in as much as you can and treasure it because you never know it could be the last game you play."

Youngs made his debut on the wing at Murrayfield as a replacement for Ugo Monye and although he admits he would play anywhere for England, Youngs is looking forward getting some game time at 9 at the Stade de France.

"If it meant a cap for England I’d go on at prop or hooker," he added.

"But I’d love to get on and play scrum half and show what I can do and enjoy every moment of it."
