Ben Youngs has returned to full training in New Zealand and feels ready to sparkle once again in an England shirt after 10 weeks on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The 21-year-old required keyhole surgery on his left knee in the early stages of England’s Rugby World Cup training camp and he admits for a moment he feared his participation at rugby’s showpiece was in doubt.

Youngs’ high-tempo play and accurate passing have been a feature of England’s play since his first game at No.9 against Australia in Sydney in 2010 and the Leicester Tigers man has worked hard to return to fitness.

Speaking exclusively to RFUtv, he said: "I’m fully training now and the knee is good, obviously it was a bit of a setback when I did it but it’s thanks to the physios that I’m here now.

"I’m up for selection [for Argentina] so we’ll see what happens. There was that moment when I did it when I thought how long will I be out for.

"I very much feel I can get that match sharpness back quickly but the coaches are very smart, they know how to use me and they’ll introduce me slowly.

"You don’t forget how to play it’s just a matter of match fitness and a little bit of sharpness, but I’d like to think it won’t take me too long."

Youngs, who turns 22 tomorrow, has only made 34 starts for Leicester Tigers and admits it is still a dream come true to be representing his country at the world cup in the early stages of his career.

The No.9 says he feels proud of his achievement in making the elite 30-man group when he considers the amount of quality players in the Aviva Premiership.

Youngs, who announced himself on the international scene with a stunning debut try in the victory over Australia in Sydney, added: "I’m very proud of what I’ve managed to do, there’s 30 guys here and that’s a slim amount when you consider how many people play in the Premiership.

"I’m absolutely delighted to be here, everybody has been talking about it for so long and for it to finally be here it’s quite nice. We’re ready to go and it’s been such a big build up that everyone can’t wait for next week against Argentina."
