Profile

Starting all except two of England’s 45 matches in 2010-11 HSBC World Series proved the Sevens pedigree of Chris Cracknell, who played in his twentieth tournament in Edinburgh at the end of last May and has since figured in all six this season, scoring a try in each of four. It brought his aggregate to 17.

He ran in two tries in the Dubai semi-final against Samoa in early December 2009, another in Hong Kong in March last year and his thirteenth overall against Argentina at Twickenham in May since his debut against Spain at Twickenham in May 2008. He then celebrated England’s first win in the Wellington tournament the following year where New Zealand were beaten 19-17.

He was back at Twickenham in 2009, helping his country to lift the Emirates Airlines London Sevens title with another victory over New Zealand, this time by 31-26 in sudden death extra-time.

No sooner had Chris returned from George in December 2009, than he signed for Premiership club Worcester Warriors until the end of the 2009-10 campaign before taking up an England Sevens contract. He had previously represented England U19 and U21, having captained the South West U18 side in 2005-06.

His club rugby experience has spanned Harlequins, Cornish Pirates, whom he joined from Newbury Blues in 2006. He has also played for Bath, making his Premiership debut in the 27-16 home defeat by Newcastle Falcons in October 2009 and switched to Worcester Warriors to reinforce the back row in the absence of Netani Talei, who had undergone shoulder reconstruction.
