Profile

Scoring a debut try in the Paris Sevens with his first touch of the ball against Canada in 2004 hallmarked Rob Vickerman as a player to watch. He has now scored 21 tries in 17 tournaments.  His most recent include one that helped England to beat France 29-12 in the Cup final in Dubai last December, others against Argentina and Samoa in Hong Kong and another against Japan in Tokyo in March.

He was a product of the Leeds Academy, was called up for the senior squad in 2005-06 and his first appearance was against the Scarlets in the Powergen Cup.

Rob made 11 starts for Leeds when they returned to the Guinness Premiership at the end of 2008-09 before moving the Newcastle Falcons.

After his England Sevens’ debut his career at that level was on hold, partly through a knee reconstruction, until his comeback in the 2008 Dubai tournament. The following February, he shared in England’s first triumph in the Wellington event, scoring a try in the 19-17 win over New Zealand. Rob also helped England to lift the London title in May 2009.

He returned to the England Sevens fold in 2011, leaving Falcons to sign a full-time contract and appeared in the FIRA AER European GP Sevens Series

Rob’s formative years were spent at Hymers College and with Hull RFC and he was part of the Leeds side that won the National Colts Cup in 2004.

Leeds-born Rob says that the biggest influence on his career has been Stuart Lancaster, his academy coach at Leeds.
