Profile

One of ten uncapped players in the 44-strong England Elite squad announced in the autumn of 2010, Abigail Chamberlain has played for the A team and Sevens and joined Richmond last season after playing for Worcester.

Her plans to move back to London and play for a bigger Premiership team were realised after Abi completed her studies at Worcester University. Abi explained: “I also wanted to be nearer to Twickenham Stadium, which is the home of England Rugby.”

A versatile back, she can play at centre, wing or full back and was educated at Grand Avenue Primary School and Tolworth Girls School in Surbiton and attained a BSc (Hons) in Sport Coaching Science and PE at Worcester. Abi also has a BTEC National Diploma in Sport Science from Richmond upon Thames College and first played rugby at the age of 20.

She helped England to win the European Sevens Championships in July last year at Hanover, Germany and contributed conversions in the wins over Spain (24-0), Sweden (7-0), Portugal (32-0) and Germany (44-0) in the semi finals. They clinched the trophy to add to their bulging silverware cabinet by beating Spain 30-12. She was born in Kingston upon Thames.
