Profile

A BSc Sport Science and Nutrition (Hons) degree opened the way for Alice Richardson to become a schools sports officer in Feltham and personal trainer for One Element Ltd. A RFU Level 2 coach, she is also studying part time for the MSc in Strength & Conditioning at St Mary’s University and has 32 England caps and 46 international points to her name, including a try in the 2011 Nations Cup triumph over Canada.

Alice switched from centre to fly half for the second and third games in the Nations Cup in August 2011, having been awarded the vice captaincy before the earlier victories over South Africa by 46-8 and Canada by 22-10. She appeared in the final game of the three Test series against New Zealand in the autumn.

Worcester-born and educated at Inkberrow First, Ridgeway Middle, Alcester High and Alcester Grammar Schools, Alice, now of Richmond, played for Worcester seniors for five years, having originally joined the club at U16 level.

She was Richmond’s Player of the Season in 2007, has captained the club’s Sevens team and led England at that level in the World Cup against Russia. Tours have taken her to New Zealand, Canada, four times to Dubai, the Netherlands and Italy with England.

Alice played off the bench for Rachael Burford in the opening game of the 2010 WRWC against Ireland, started the semi final against Australia and was a replacement in the final against New Zealand. Her target inside the game is winning the Sevens World Cup and outside it completing her studies and pursuing work as a strength & conditioning coach.

Her most memorable match was playing at Twickenham against New Zealand at Sevens and in the 15-a-side game she has switched between fly half and centre but also figured at full back. Alice’s brother Jim has played for Worcester, Loughborough and Stratford-upon-Avon and she has been an LTA ranked and senior county tennis player, a qualified lifeguard and has represented the Midlands at swimming.

Gary Street, the England Women’s head coach, is a mentor, along with backs coach David Walder and Richmond head coach Karen Jones. Players who have inspired Alice are the indefatigable Wasp Serge Betsen, François Steyn, of South Africa, and England’s own Dominic Waldouck. Her top ground is that of Stade Français with all its razzmatazz.
