Tag rugby at Harewood Junior School in Gloucester at the age of ten inspired Charlotte Keane to play in the full contact game at Hucclecote RFC four years later and expand her career from there. It featured matches for England U20s last season against France, Wales, a two try performance against Scotland and an appearance for England Sevens.
Gloucester-born Charlotte attended St Peter’s RCHS, played for Gloucestershire U14s and U18s and is now a second and final year student, taking a BTEC National Diploma in Sport and benefitting from the input of Danielle Waterman, her Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence coach.
Charlotte’s father Martin played at club level in Gloucester for 25 years and has been typically supportive, transport included, and Gary Townsend, the Gloucester Girls’ Academy coach, was a beneficial figure for four years during her development.
Since captaining Hucclecote girls for two seasons, Charlotte has since been rewarded for her speed and impressed in 2010-11, her first season with Worcester. She played for Gloucester Reds for ten years, has won a series of personal honours and shared in collective triumphs with Jo Yapp and Ben Youngs as her role models.
Charlotte was part of the Samurai Sevens squad in Dubai in December 2010 and was a British Colleges Cup winner in 2009, the year she shared in St Peter’s success at the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens. Further honours now beckon.
