Profile

Versatility is the name of Emily Scarratt’s game. She began playing with scrum half ambitions at Leicester Forest, formerly Old Bosworthians, at the age of five before moving to fly half and then playing as a centre and full back.

With 21 tries, including one against the USA in the 2010 WRWC, two in the Scotland match in mid March last year and another against the same opponents in February 2012, in 35 Test appearances, her switch has paid off, dating back to a debut against the United States in the Nations Cup two years ago.

Overall, Emily has amassed 132 points, including nine conversions and three penalty goals.  Her latest scoring contribution includes a conversion and a penalty when England lost 16-15 to France at Châteaurenaud in November 2011. Later that month, she was ‘Player of the Match’ after making the scintillating break that created the only try of the game, for Maggie Alphonsi, in the 10-0 triumph over New Zealand at Twickenham. She also shared in the 21-7 victory in the second Test against the Black Ferns at Esher and in the 8-8 draw a few days later.

She helped the Red Roses to a 22-10 victory over hosts Canada in the Nations Cup earlier this year with two conversions and a penalty goal and put over three conversions and another penalty in the 41-19 final triumph over the same opponents. The 2010 WRWC final is her most memorable match.

Leicester-born Emily has since completed three years of studies in Sport & Exercise Science at Leeds Metropolitan University, having been previously educated at Desford Primary, Bosworth High and Bosworth College where she gained nine GCSEs and A levels in Biology, PE and Geography.

Since leaving Leicester Forest after a 12-year spell, she joined Lichfield in 2007 and represented England U19 and U20 before enjoying the euphoria of senior caps. She was the Leicester Mercury Young Sports Woman in 2007-08, has toured Canada twice with England U20 and Seniors and represented England U18 at rounders.

All of that would not have been possible without the backing of dad Mark, whom Emily says is her chief supporter and taxi driver!

In her spare time, Emily, who is known as 'Scaz' to her team-mates, enjoys playing tennis, basketball and squash and her match highlights have been England’s epoch-making victory over the redoubtable All Blacks at Twickenham in November 2009 and the WRWC final the following year. As for her favourite players, they are Ireland centre Brian O’Driscoll and Sue Day, the former England captain.
