Winning the Leicestershire Rugby Union Outstanding Achievement award for last season added to Jennifer Brightmore’s distinction of captaining the Midlands. A physical education teacher in Worcestershire, she has played England Sevens last season and figured at lock for her club and division, having begun as a centre.
Jenny played in all four matches in the 2011 Nations Cup at Appleby College, Ontario. She made her England debut at 15-a-side level off the bench in the 15-11 victory over the United States and three days later was enlisted for her first start when South Africa were beaten 46-8 at the same venue.
Her third appearance in just over a week followed in the 22-10 win over Canada before she contributed to a repeat victory (41-19) over the same opponents in the final.
She started playing when 17 when in the sixth form at John Cleveland College in Hinckley, where she also attended Holliers Walk Primary School and Mount Grace HS. Jenny said: “I was involved in hockey when I began my studies for a BSc (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science at the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff but I thought I would give rugby another go in my final year there.”
Nuneaton-born Jenny was in the UWIC squad that lost to Loughborough University in the 2004-05 BUSA final at Twickenham and represented England Students during that season. She appeared for the town side in Loughborough from 2007-09 and switched to Worcester, her present club.
Her favourite ground is Welford Road and away from the game Jenny enjoys visiting friends and family, going to the cinema and eating good food.
