Playing high level rugby is an extension of Sarah Guest’s life in the open air which will gather momentum when she takes up a position in March as the Ropes Course Manager and Lead Instructor for Closer to the Edge at sites around the Midlands.
She has obtained a BTEC National Diploma in Sports Development & Fitness and a BSc in Outdoor Adventure Leadership and Management at Worcester University, having previously attended St Bernadette’s Primary and Edgecliff High School. Sarah was born at Wordsley, a village south of Kingswinford and first played the game when eight through to the age of 12 at Dudley Kingswinford RFC.
Sarah has represented England U19 three times, the U20 side in six matches, the A team around 10 times and England Sevens in four tournaments. She has captained Worcester U16 and Worcester University and led England U20 against Wales. Seven countries have been on her rugby itinerary with club or country – France, Spain, Germany, Russia, Romania, Dubai and Canada. Jo Yapp, her club mentor and the player that she most admires, and Giselle Mather have been important figures in her development. A specialist scrum half, Sarah sometimes plays at outside centre for Worcester.
Her best rugby memory was the U20 Nations Cup final against hosts Canada in 2008 and she has enjoyed playing most at Dubai in the Sevens. Sarah’s hobbies outside the game are – quite logically – climbing, mountaineering, water sports and travelling. Her cousin Gabi has also worn England’s colours – at U19 hockey.
