A: A registered agent is an agent who is registered with the RFU in accordance with RFU Regulations.
Q: Who is an Overseas Registered Agent?
A: An overseas registered agent is an agent who holds a licence issued by another national rugby union body, entitling the agent to carry out any agency activity within that national rugby union’s jurisdiction.
Q: Who is an Exempt Individual?
A: An exempt individual can be a player’s parent, sibling or spouse or an individual who acts in a professional capacity as a solicitor or barrister in the United Kingdom or equivalent jurisdiction outside the United Kingdom.
Q: What level of professional indemnity insurance cover does an agent need?
A: The Agents Review Board (ARB) has decided that appropriate level of professional indemnity insurance required is £500,000. Towergate are able to offer PI insurance to agents who do not already have the relevant cover.
Q: Is there an agents registration fee?
A: The agents registration fee is £500 (which includes a £50 non-refundable administration fee). Each year there will be an annual renewal fee of £100 (which includes a £50 non-refundable administration fee) which will be payable within 28 days.
Q: What happens if I don’t become a registered agent?
A: Unless you are a registered agent, an overseas registered agent or an exempt individual, from November 1, 2009 you will not be permitted to act for a player or a Ccub in England.
Q: How long can my agent/client contract last for?
A: The RFU require that the agreement between a registered agent and a player must be for a fixed term of a maximum of two years and there should be no automatic roll-over or renewal provision. This is in accordance with IRB Regulation 5.
