University of Portsmouth Rugby Football Club Coaches
The University of Portsmouth Rugby Club is one of the biggest University Rugby clubs in the South of England. Over the last five years the club has grown from three to six teams, including a women's team.
To sustain this growth we are looking for coaches to join our coaching team and contribute to the development of the club’s teams. Working with the University club would be a good first step for coaches who are looking to eventually move into coaching adult club teams.
Tom Drewett, the University’s Head Coach is a RFU Level 3 Coach and former professional player. He leads a small group of coaches of varying backgrounds and experience.
Whilst we work as a coaching team, we are keen to increase the number of coaches working with the club; so that we can give coaches the opportunity to take direct responsibility for developing an individual team.
We are able to offer a range of coaching opportunities suitable for both new coaches and experienced coaches. In particular we are keen to recruit a coach, whose specialty is back-play, to work with the first and second team squad and a coach to support our women’s head coach.
The club's main training session is on a Monday night between 6.30pm and 8.30pm (coaches meeting at 6pm) at Portsmouth Rugby Football Club when all six teams train. The club season runs from late September (First training session is on Monday 26th September) to the end of March.
All our coaches have access to mentoring and coach development support.
We are a friendly and inclusive club, which strives to provide suitable playing opportunities for all and help make students’ time at university a memorable one.
