Hours:            3 hours per week for 22 weeks per academic year + attendance at home fixtures
Salary:            £15.62 per hour (Level 2), £19.53 per hour (Level 3+) -

We are hugely keen on sport here at the University of Northampton Students’ Union, and sport is free to every student that studies here. We are looking to improve the quality of the sports provision we offer to our members as well as the standards which our teams achieve.

As a coach you will be responsible for the delivery of two ninety minute sessions each week during term-times, based upon the feedback provided by the team’s captain and your own instincts. We also require coaches to be at the majority (if not all) home fixtures.

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced coach in each sport who will be able to inspire our students to achieve their full potential when at the University and delivery a top quality training programme.

Overall Purpose:


The aim of the Students’ Union is to support and enhance the educational, social, cultural and recreational activities, and opportunities of the student body, and also to provide a channel of communication for students with the Universi-ty, NUS and other bodies.

The purpose of this role is to provide the University of Northampton with quality coaching and development opportunities for both the team and individuals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. To assist in the organisation of trials and selection of players.

2. To deliver quality, planned coaching sessions to the club to improve the performance of both individuals and the team/s.

3. To encourage and nurture an environment where high performance can exist and is expected.

4. To develop a termly training plan that is presented to the Sport Development Co-ordinator.

5. To submit to the Sport Development Co-ordinator a monthly attendance report.

6. To demonstrate commitment to professional development and clear player development pathways.

7. To ensure all activities comply fully with Health & Safety legislation and that the appropriate risk assessments are implemented.

8. To work at all times within an equal opportunities framework.

9. To work according to BUCS regulations.

Generic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Attendance at weekly home matches where possible.

2. To attend a pre-term Orientation session.

3. Any other duties, as may be reasonably required, from time to time by your Line Manager or Senior Manage-ment Team.

4. These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. Other duties or a change of duties may be necessary from time to time. It is important to know that you will be expected to participate in any training programme considered relevant to your job. The Students’ Union expects all staff to participate and take ownership of their Induction, Personal Review Programmes, Departmental Staff Meetings, Training and networking opportunities.

5. A condition of employment is that all staff are expected to assist in key events throughout the year e.g. Fresh-ers’ Fair and any other key events, including elections, if necessary. Staff are expected to portray a positive image, both internally and externally of the Students’ Union by displaying high standards of service, integrity, punctuality, politeness and professionalism.
