Community Rugby Coach (part-time)

Pay: Casual rate dependent upon qualifications

Type of contract: Casual/Freelance – ongoing

Location: Hampshire and Berkshire

Responsible to: Head of Community

Purpose of job: To deliver high quality refereeing and rugby coaching sessions. London Irish is seeking top-level freelance coaches for its successful match day, school holiday rugby camps and curriculum time delivery. You will be working for one of the finest rugby teams in Premiership Rugby alongside professional full-time staff – you will be coaching and refereeing young stars aged between six and 15 across the Hampshire and Berkshire area.

Principal responsibilities:

  • To lead high-quality rugby sessions promoting the coaching ethos of London Irish
  • To plan and deliver the agreed session
  • To regularly check that the venue and all activities conform with London Irish minimum operating standards, making the safety of participants paramount (which includes health and safety, safeguarding and rugby specific guidance)
  • Ensure all equipment is in a safe condition and correctly maintained


  • Pay band – hourly rate to be determined by relevant experience and qualifications
  • Entry to selected London Irish home games
  • Some London Irish branded clothing provided
  • Access to elite level coaching techniques
  • Potential full-time employment opportunities

Person specification:

  • Level 2 RFU coaching certificate
  • Current First Aid Certificate (preferable)
  • Current (within three years) scUK Safeguarding and Protecting Children certificate (preferable)
  • UK driving licence and access to personal transport
  • Up-to-date enhanced CRB (preferably RFU)
  • Relevant coaching experience
  • Experience working with children
  • Knowledge of emergency operating procedures
