The England Schools U16s Management team is looking to appoint an Honorary Team Manager for the England U16 Team.

The Manager will work with and lead the England U16s Delivery Team, to produce a successful team on and off the field. The role will support and manage the playing programme for the England U16 Team, including working with the Head Coach to define the programme, player selection, and match preparation.

The applicant should be generally respected as a person of authority within the game with a background in County and (ideally) Divisional rugby. They will demonstrate the organisational and management skills commensurate with such a position, combined with tact and diplomacy

Principal responsibilities:

  • Ensure the RFU’s objectives for the England U16s are achieved by providing a development pathway for players, managers, coaches and sports medical staff
  • Lead and manage England U16s National Delivery Team in accordance with its Terms of Reference that guides national, divisional & CB U16 representative rugby provision to identify talented U16 players outside of the elite pathway whilst providing a talent identification process for late-developing players.
  • Manage the delivery of the selection process within the budget provided and in line with the policies laid down by the Player Development Sub- Committee and Community Age Grade Representative Rugby Working Group/Delivery Team .
  • Manage the delivery of the England U16s Teams and playing programme including match preparation, travel, accommodation and logistics, playing facilities and equipment, medical support, insurance and media liaison.
  • -Ensure that the coaching and playing squad present themselves as ambassadors for the Rugby Football Union & ERFSU and act within accordance of the Core Values of the sport and ethos of the ERFSU.
  • Attend the meetings of the Under 16 Delivery Team to assist with the development of the England U16s programme.
  • Facilitate an annual review of the programme and appraisal of staff providing a report to the Chairman of the Community Age Grade Representative via the Under 16 Delivery Team.
  • Be involved in the appointment of National and Divisional Delivery Team members where appropriate.

Knowledge, skills and qualities:

  • Self-motivated, committed, enthusiastic to player development, The Rugby Football Union and ERFSU
  • Is able to lead & manage people and create a positive working environment for player’s, management and volunteers
  • Punctual, reliable and well organised
  • Ability to communicate with a range of people
  • Management experience of rugby teams at county or divisional levels
  • Commitment to the RFU’s “aspirational” player pathway and an understanding of the broader aspects of the game as a whole for U16 players
  • Sets high standards of personal accountability and responsibility for the players and management team.


  • The post holder will be expected to work closely with other National and Divisional Team Managers and is accountable to the U16 Chairman and Delivery Team for the successful delivery of the responsibilities as outlined above. The post holder may delegate to the management team, as necessary, any task whilst retaining full accountability and responsibility
  • The post holder will work closely with relevant RFU professional staff and Chairmen of Divisional Delivery Teams and receive appropriate travel expenses
  • The term for the position is two years subject to annual review.
