How did you get to where you are today?
During my penultimate year of study towards a degree in Business & Management BSc (Hons), I undertook a 14 month industrial placement within the HR department at Unisys. This fuelled my interest in pursuing a career in HR and following graduation I sought opportunities within this field.
I joined the RFU as HR Assistant in August 2005 and since then the RFU has provided me with continuous support in developing my career from sponsoring me to gain my professional CIPD qualification to promoting me to my current role of HR Partner.
Why did you join the RFU?
A family friend who works for the RFU let me know that the current HR Assistant was leaving… so off my application went!
What does your role involve?
Providing and co-ordinating a full range of professional HR services and serving as the primary HR Advisor to designated business areas within the organisation (Business Operations, Finance, Funding and IT and Stadium).
What do you enjoy most about working for the RFU?
We all share a passion for rugby and care about the future of our game, which makes our lives in the HR department much easier!
What is your take on Rugby?
When asked “are you a rugby fan” at interview, I hesitated before admitting that it wasn’t rugby I was passionate about, it was HR. I had no interest in the sport, and would never have predicted that I would soon also share that passion with rugby.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
I am one of the lucky ones who really does love what they do and where they do it.
What does the future hold for you both at the RFU and your career?
My role is ever evolving so I will continue to develop through invaluable experiential learning with the faith that the RFU will make sure I receive the training and support I need to progress and achieve my potential.
Message to prospective applicants…
If the RFU were entered in to the employer of choice awards, it would win 1st prize!
