Francis Baron became Chief Executive of the Rugby Football Union in October 1998, after extensive experience at senior levels within a number of major PLCs, including leading travel and media companies.
During his time at the RFU he has created a focused management structure, adopting best practice standards throughout the organization, with profits rising consistently and the RFU continuing to strengthen the balance sheet. A major redevelopment of Twickenham Stadium’s South Stand has been achieved without government or outside agency funding. With its hotel and leisure complex, Rugby Store and performance & exhibition space this development brings added revenue generating assets for the game of rugby union in England.
Under Francis Baron’s direction, the RFU has created subsidiary and joint venture businesses including Twickenham Experience Ltd, who have the rights to all hospitality within Twickenham Stadium; England Rugby Travel, who sell packages worldwide; the London Marriott Hotel Twickenham and the Virgin Active Classic Health Club. These ventures help to maximize revenue for the entire game.
As well as his role as CEO of the Union, Francis Baron is a member of the Professional Game Board, now responsible for the elite game in England. He is also Chairman Twickenham Experience Ltd; Chairman RFU Hotel Ltd; Chairman RFU Health & Leisure Ltd; Chairman South Stand Development Committee; Chairman England Rugby Travel Ltd; Director Rugby Football Development Ltd.
