There are a lot of questions you may want to ask before purchasing a debenture at Twickenham. We have tried to provide answers for many of them below. If your query is not answered below, you can always contact us by email or phone to discuss the situation further.
A debenture confers on the debenture holder the right to purchase, at face value, one ticket for Rugby Union events at Twickenham Stadium for a given period, currently 10 years (with the exception of a small number of business debentures in the South Stand which confer ticket rights for 15 years). A debenture is fully repayable, currently after 75 years, but bears no interest.
The RFU endeavours to allocate the same seats to debenture holders for England Internationals for which tickets are under the control of the RFU (i.e. not Rugby World Cup matches). Debenture holders are not guaranteed the same seats for non-International matches, although the RFU strives to provide the highest quality seats for events over which it has ticketing control. At events for which Twickenham Stadium has been hired by a third party, the allocation of tickets to debenture holders is out of the RFU’s control.
No. The RFU’s allocation as the visiting union is not large enough to offer away tickets to debenture holders.
Debenture holders do not have an entitlement to tickets for other events, such as concerts or other sports. However, the RFU would always endeavour to negotiate an allocation of tickets for debenture holders from the organisers, although this would not necessarily be enough to satisfy demand.
Some debentures do carry an entitlement to parking, but most do not. Some debenture holders who purchased debentures for the first time between 1980 and 1995, and who have purchased new debentures as their original ones expired, have an entitlement. Anyone who purchased debentures for the first time since 1995 does not have an entitlement.
The RFU has a small number of business debentures in the South Stand available. These are £14000 each and the ticket rights run for 15 years. Information on these debentures can be obtained from Corporate Sales Manager Lawson Hill, email lawsonhill@rfu.com. Existing debenture holders are able to sell their debentures if they so wish, but they must do that privately rather than through the RFU.
Provided that debentures are available for purchase, personal debentures can be purchased by individuals (but not businesses), provided that the purchaser is a member of a club or constituent body affiliated to the RFU throughout the period that there is an entitlement to purchase tickets. Business debentures can be purchased by individuals, companies or partnerships, provided that the individual, company (or its nominee) or partnership (or its nominee) is a member of an affiliated club or constituent body.
At present, debenture holders must complete an application form and return it with payment or payment details to the Debenture Office by a closing date. These forms are sent at regular intervals through the post and are available online. It is anticipated that within the next twelve months, debenture holders will be able to apply for their tickets, and have access to their booking history, using an on-line booking system accessed through the RFU website.
Tickets not applied for by debenture holders are added to the allocation to the RFU’s member clubs and schools. The allocation to clubs and schools begins immediately after the debenture holders’ closing date, so the likelihood is that an application made after the closing date will not be successful.
Because the RFU needs to know in plenty of time how many unused debenture tickets can be allocated to the clubs and schools. However, debenture holders who choose to pay by Direct Debit do not pay for their tickets until a few weeks before the matches.

Debentures entitle the holder to purchase one ticket per debenture held. For non-Internationals (and certain Internationals which are not expected to sell out), debentures may apply for more tickets than their debentures entitle them to.
The RFU Debenture Office aims to send out International tickets in batches, 2-3 weeks before the first match of a batch. Tickets for non-International matches tend to be sent out on a more ad-hoc basis, but usually 2-3 weeks before each event.
If you are entitled to apply for car parking, it will appear on your application form. If you are not, you should contact the RFU as soon as you receive your match tickets for details of what parking, if any, is available.
The RFU does provide duplicate tickets, provided that it can satisfy itself that the request is a genuine one. Other than in exceptional circumstances, duplicate tickets are not issued until the day of the match. If duplicate tickets are required, a debenture holder should contact the Debenture Office ticketoffice@therfu.com to request the duplicates and giving a reason for the request. The Debenture Office will then give the debenture holder collection details.
Debenture holders, like all other ticket holders, are bound by the Ticket Terms & Conditions.
For Grade A matches (6 Nations matches or matches against South Africa, New Zealand and Australia), the Ticket Office will accept returned tickets up to 48 hours prior to the match and if resold a refund will be issued. For Grade A matches, if a debenture holder finds that he has a spare ticket on the day of the match it can be returned at least 30 minutes before kick off and a refund less an administration charge of £5 per ticket will be issued after the match.
The RFU is obliged to offer tickets for Grade A Internationals only to its members in the first instance, those members being clubs, constituent bodies, schools etc. In order for debenture holders to qualify for guaranteed allocation of tickets, they must therefore be members of a club or constituent body.
By fax or e-mail to the Debenture Office.
Personal debentures may only be transferred to an individual (as opposed to a business) who is a member of a rugby club affiliated to the RFU. Both parties are required to complete a transfer form available from the Debenture Office. The RFU does not involve itself in any financial transaction. Business debentures may be transferred to another business provided that business, or that business’s nominee, is a club member.
With the exception of business debentures in the South Stand, which entitle the holders to pay for hospitality in a dedicated facility, debentures do not carry an entitlement to hospitality. A very limited number of places are a vailable for each match for both business and personal debenture holders from Twickenham Experience on 020 8744 9997.
