Bracknell gave promotion chasing Newbury a run for their money going down to a narrow two point loss in the end and now find themselves just a point clear of the relegation zone.
Andy Frost put the home side ahead in the 8th minute with a penalty goal. Newbury took four minutes to respond and went ahead with flanker Johnny Tuamoheloa going in for a try. The lead did not last long with Frost kicking a second penalty goal on 15 minutes for 6-5. Just before the half hour mark and the visitors went in front again with full back Mal Roberts going in for a try and this time Dave Harvey converted for 12-6. Frost kicked penalties either side of the half time interval to level it up at 12 all.
10 points in five minutes changed the game in favour of Newbury with left wing Martin Nutt going in for his 11th try of the season and Harvey converted and then slotted over a penalty goal to move 22-12 ahead.
Frost pulled three points back with a fifth penalty goal and when prop Mike Guess went over for a try and Frost had the chance to level with the conversion but could not find the target and Newbury took the win and are now just four points form taking the second place position.
Doncaster 8 (Try: Reid. Pen: Liley.)
Wharfedale 3 (Pen: Davies.)
Champions Doncaster were given a real tough match by Wharfedale coming through just 8-3 and leave Wharfedale needing three points to make sure they are not dragged into the relegation fight.
Rob Liley took the lead in the 6th minute with a penalty goal and they took the 3-0 scoreline into the half time break.
Five minutes into the second half and full back Jonathan Davies levelled the scores. The home side got what turned out to be the winning score two minutes later with centre Phil Reid crossing the Wharfedale try line for the games only try.
Launceston 12 (Tries: Lacey 2. Con: Perry.)
Harrogate 21 (Tries: Boyle, Barker. Con: Cholewa. Pens: Cholewa 3.)
Harrogate got over last Saturday’s disappointing home loss against Nuneaton with this excellent away win to keep their hopes of escaping the drop alive and are now just a point back from Bracknell and four back from Esher with two games remaining.
Launceston were first on the scoreboard with a try from left wing Martin Lacey and they stayed in front till the 35th minute when the visitors tied up the scores with No 8 Andrew Boyle touching down and it stayed that way till the break.
In the second half centre Jamie Barker gave the visitors the lead and with Lee Cholewa converting they were 12-5 ahead. Cholewa then slotted over three successive penalty goals to move into a winning 21-5 lead after 67 minutes.
Lacey completed a double on 73 minutes for the Cornish All Blacks but it was too late then to make any difference and the Yorkshire side picked up an extremely valuable win.
Manchester 10 (Try: Richmond. Con: Leyden. Pen: Leyden.)
Moseley 31 (Tries: N Bressington, Coles, Thomas, Binns. Con: Thomas. Cons: Thomas 2. DG: Thomas.)
Moseley kept alive their outside chance of catching Newbury with this impressive away win at Manchester.
The home side took the lead with a 10th penalty goal before Moseley took over the first half scoring to move into a 19-3 lead.
Ollie Thomas kicked a couple of penalty goals and dropped a goal whilst there were tries from wing Nathan Bressington and prop Paul Coles.
Early in the second half and Thomas touched down for a try but a few minutes later Manchester managed to cross the Moseley line through centre Isaac Richmond and Leyden converted.
Later in the match Moseley rounded up the win and secured the four try bonus point with centre Andy Binns touching down.

Nuneaton 38 (Tries: Peacock, Marshall, Cardey, G Southwell 2, Williams. Cons: Cull 4.)
Esher 25 (Tries: Gregory, Defty. Pens: Hallett 5.)
Nuneaton got a much needed win with this six try display over Esher who were kept in the game by the boot of Neil Hallett. .
Esher wing Piers Gregory went in for a try in the opening minute to see the visitors go 5-0 ahead. Nuneaton though responded superbly and ran in four tries in 23 minutes to go 2805 ahead and secure the bonus point which might prove vital in the final count. Hallett pulled three points back with a penalty goal before half time.
In the third quarter Hallett dominated the scoring with three more Hallett penalty goals but just after the half hour mark left wing Alex Williams got the fifth home try and make it 33-17. Hallett added another penalty goal before Nuneaton got try number six with flanker Glenn Southwell getting his second try of the afternoon.
Esher need another win from their final two matches to escape the drop whilst Nuneaton realistically need to win both their remaining two matches to have a chance of staying up for another season.
Stourbridge 20 (Tries: Handley 2, Hall. Con: Hughes. Pen: Hughes.)
Rosslyn Park 37 (Tries: Chatterton 2, Jackson, Boardman, Sambrook, Justice. Cons: Fennell 2. Pen: Fennell.)
Rosslyn Park ended their losing run with this impressive away win at Stourbridge running in six tries. The home side took an 8-0 lead in the opening seven minutes and Park must have fought here we go again as Duncan Hughes puts over a penalty goal and scrum half Toby Handley getting a try.
Park then scored three unanswered tries with full back James Justice, hooker Duncan Sambrook and flanker Graham Boardman all touching down but Jonathan Fennell could not converted any of them as the visitors led 15-8 after 36 minutes. The home side though were level by the break with an injury time try from Handley and Hughes converted for 15 all.
Fennell put the London side back in front on 47 minutes before two converted tries form left wing Scott Chatterton changed the games as the visitors went in to a 32-15 lead and a rare win looked on the cards. Both sides scored tries in injury time but by them the visitors had secured the win. .
Waterloo 10 (Tries: Jones, Kerfoot.)
Blackheath 16 (Tries: Bason. Con: McCashin. Pens: McCashin 3.)
Just the win Blackheath needed to keep out of the relegation battle with an excellent away win at Waterloo.
Blackheath were in front in the 3rd minute with Steve McCashin putting over a penalty goal. Not long after they went 10-0 ahead with second row Tom Bason touching down and McCashin converted. Hooker Christian Jones pulled five points back with a try but the final score of the half went the way of Blackheath with McCashin slotting over a late penalty goal for a 13-5 lead.
McCashin kicked a third penalty to extend the Blackheath led in the 50th minute. Waterloo did manage the final score with a try from wing Neil Kerfoot. |
