Bradford & Bingley still have an out side chance of making the play offs after the weekends results.
Scrum half Nau got two tries in the opening 23 minutes to put the home side 10-3 ahead with Glenn Boyd kicking a penalty goal for the visitors in between. In the 26th minute it was all square with Cleckheaton centre Mark Billington touching down and Boyd converting. A few minutes later and Cleckheaton were ahead with Boyd slotting over a penalty goal and they led 13-10 at the break.
In the second half it took the Bees just two minutes to regain the lead with No 8 Renier Volschenk going in for a try and this time Tom Rhodes converted. Rhodes kicked a penalty on 52 minutes but the all important fourth try finally came in the 65th minute with Latu Makaafi crossing the Cleckheaton line and the bonus point was secured and with it their very very outside chance of the results going their way in the next couple of weeks.

Macclesfield 25 (Tries: Campbell 2, Wheale. Cons: Newell 2. Pens: Newell 2.)
DMP guaranteed their survival in National Three North for another season with this home win over Macclesfield who are still a point from guaranteeing a play off place.
DMP were ahead in the 7th minute with a try from prop Benny Fakalelu, converted by the boot of Mark Bedworth. Macclesfield responded well and were level two minutes later with a try from Stephen Campbell playing in the centre rather than the wing, Michael Newell converted. On 20 minutes Macclesfield went ahead with left wing Ben Wheale going over for an unconverted try. DMP though came right back at them and went in for tries in the 25th and 39th minutes form right wing Peter Phelan and Bedworth who converted them both to see his side in control at 21-12. Just before the break Newell slotted over a penalty goal to put them within a score of the home side.
Newell narrowed the gap after the break with another penalty goal.
DMP though had a good three minutes scoring 10 points as Phelan completed a double on 49 minutes, Bedworth converted and kicked a penalty goal.
Macclesfield stayed in the game just after the hour mark making it 31-25 with Campbell getting a second try and Newell adding the extras.
The home side though got a second penalty goal and then left wing Michael Georgiou went in for a try on 80 minutes and Bedworth converted to take his total to 21 points for the match.
Fylde 10 (Try: Kenyon. Con: Green. Pen: Green.)
Halifax 26 (Tries: A Luteru 2, Afoa Peterson. Con: Sanft. Pens: Sanft 3.)
Halifax clinched the National Three North league title with this win at Fylde with four matches to spare.
It took them till the 29th minute to break the home defence with full back Anzac Luteru scoring the opening try, Douglas Sanft missed the conversion but added a couple of late penalty goals to go in 11-0 ahead.
Early in the second half Sanft added another penalty goal before Fylde made it onto the scoreboard with Paul Green slotting over a penalty goal. Luteru got a second try on 69 minutes to see the visitors go 1903 ahead and Luteru moved on to 16 tries for the season one behind Kendal’s John Ladell. With time running out the home side managed to cross the Halifax line with fly half Richard Kenyon getting a try and Green converted.
Halifax though had the final say with a third try as No 8 Robert Afoa Peterson scored his 11th try of the season.
Kendal 21 (Tries: Gough, Harryman 2. Cons: Park 3.)
Dudley Kingswinford 22 (Tries: Smart 2, Smith. Cons: McLellan 2. DG: Smith.)
Already relegated Dudley Kingswinford were away winners at Kendal who still need another point to be totally sure of avoiding being drawn into the relegation battle at this late stage of the season.
DK were ahead in the 9th minute with right wing Steve Smart going in for a try and Andrew McLellan converted for 7-0.
Kendal were level on 15 minutes with their right wing James Gough touching down and Chris Park converting.
DK went back in front when fly half Ed Smith went in for a try and they were 12-7 up.
Just after the half hour mark the home side were in front with prop Richard Harryman touching down and with Park again converting it was 14-12 and it stayed like that till half time.
14 minutes into the second half and DK took the lead again with a second try form Smart and McLellan converted to lead 19-14.
Just after the hour mark and Kendal regained the lead with a second try form Harryman and again Park converted.
The winning score came in the 78th minute when Ed Smith dropped a goal.
New Brighton 21 (Tries: Mapp 2, Birley. Cons: Birley 3.)
Darlington 8 (Try: Dilworth. Pen: Kell.)
New Brighton up to fifth place after this home success over Darlington.
David Kell gave the visitors the lead with an early penalty goal but in the 25th minute New Brighton took the lead with a try from centre Tom Mapp and Anthony Birley converted. Six minutes later and Mapp went in for a second try and Birley again converted for a 14-3 half time lead.
In the final 10 minutes the home side got a third try with Birley going over in the 71st minute and he added the conversion for 21-3.
Darlington did manage a consolation try when second row Thomas Dilworth went over in the 76th minute for an unconverted try.
Rugby Lions 19 (Tries: Turner, Thompson. Pens: Bond 3.)
Blaydon 18 (Tries: Kahn, Barber. Con: Richard Windle. Pens: Richard Windle 2.)
Rugby got the win they needed to keep their hopes of avoiding the crop alive with a narrow one point win over Blaydon who are still in the mix for the drop.
Rugby were ahead in the 4th minute with Thomas Turner going in for a try. Blaydon were on the scoreboard when Richard Windle put over a 13th minute penalty goal. Glenn Bond then gave the home side some breathing space with penalties in the 15th and 22nd minutes but by half time they were trailing and relegation was looming. Fly half Andrew Kahn went in for a try and Windle converted and then slotted over a penalty goal to lead 13-11 at half time.
Just before the hour mark the home side took the lead with No 8 Paul Thompson going over and a three point lead 16-13. In the 70th minute Blaydon took the lead again with a try from right wing Simon Barber. Rugby snatched the win in the 78th minute with Bond kicking his third penalty of the afternoon.
Tynedale 19 (Tries: Gray, Parker, Holmes. Cons: Massey 2.)
Bedford Athletic 18 (Tries: Grant, Groshans. Con: Richards. Pens: Richards 3.)
Tynedale are up to fourth place after this narrow home success over already relegated Bedford Athletic.
The home side were 14-0 up in the opening 20 minutes with tries form centre Ali Gray and hooker Ed Parker and full back William Massey converting them both.
Before the break the visitors did manage to get over the Tynedale line with No 8 Scott Grant touching down.
13 minutes into the second half and it was game on with Ath getting s second try through centre Hughes Groshans and Chris Richards converted. When Richards kicked a penalty goal three minutes later Bedford were in front at 15-14 and a first away win of the season seemed a possibility.
Just after the hour mark Tynedale got a third try with scrum half Ed Holmes going over for an unconverted try and a 19-15 lead. Richards did kick another penalty goal but it not to be and the home side took the win. |
