NCA AWARDS APRIL 2005
NATIONAL THREE NORTH
COACH of the MONTH
Martin Pepper & Kevan Oliphant – Darlington Mowden Park
Martin Pepper (coach) is rugby master at Barnard Castle School – where there is a strong rugby tradition with considerable success in recent years. He has also been assistant coach at Harrogate RFC.
Kevan (sic) Oliphant (coach) played for the club and his vision (and kicking) was central to the club’s rise through the regional leagues and into the Nationals. He is pleased and proud to receive this award, but smiles at a certain irony after the predicament we found ourselves in six or seven weeks ago. He has nothing but praise for the efforts of the squad, to whom he attributes the recent successes.
PLAYER of the MONTH
Mark Bedworth – Darlington MP
Mark Bedworth is a local north-easterner who joined us at the age of eighteen from Durham City RFC some five years ago. He has been off injured for much of the season, but his return (together with that of Tongan lock Paino Kelekolio) has coincided with our return to winning form.
He ended the season as both leading points and try scorer for the club despite missing half the league matches through injury.
2: David Jessiman (Halifax). 3: Anzac Luteru (Halifax).
KICKER of the MONTH
Mark Bedworth – Darlington Mowden Park
See above
In his last three matches of the season Bedworth did not miss a kick slotting over all 17 of his attempts at goal.
2nd: Douglas Sanft (Halifax) 3rd Tom Rhodes (Bradford & Bingley).
