NATIONAL ONE

 

Pertemps Bees v Cornish Pirates

 

Third placed Cornish Pirates travel to 10th placed Pertemps Bees looking to keep their excellent start to the season going.  

 

After losing at home to Quins on the opening day of the new season the Bees have won both their home matches since beating Coventry and Plymouth Albion.

 

The Pirates have already won three on the road this season with their only defeat coming against second placed Bedford Blues.

 

The Bees were convincing winners in this fixture last season running out 33-12 victors.  But it was honours even overall with the Pirates triumphing 19-10 at home.

    

Prediction: Away win by seven points.  

 

 

Coventry v Plymouth Albion

 

12th placed Coventry are looking to get there season going with this home fixture over 8th placed Plymouth Albion who have also made a disappointing start to the new season.  

 

Coventry have had a dreadful start to the new season winning just the once and have already lost three times at the Butt Arena, their only win was a 30-14 result against Otley. 

 

Albion have lost all three of their away matches this season and two were by just five points, a 14-9 loss at Doncaster having earlier lost 35-30 at Rotherham. 

 

Last season this fixture ended in a draw at 25 all whilst at Brickfields Albion thrashed Coventry 46-8.

    

Prediction: Tough call this one but an away win by three points.  

 

 

NEC Harlequins v Exeter Chiefs

 

Leaders NEC Harlequins play just their third home game of the season as they entertain sixth placed Exeter Chiefs at the Stoop. .

 

Quins have already won twice at the Stoop this season but were given tough matches for an hour before pulling clear to win comfortably. Quins have scored 26 tries this season and 13 have come in the fourth quarter where they have conceded just the once. 

 

The Chiefs have mad a disappointing start to the new season but ended a two match losing streak last time out with a win over the Pertemps Bees. On the road this season they have managed just the one win, a 23-17 win at Doncaster, whilst losing at Plymouth Albion and Rotherham.

 

These two sides have never met in the league before.

    

Prediction: Home win by 12 points.  

 

 

Nottingham v Bedford Blues

 

Second placed Bedford Blues travel to fifth placed Nottingham looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season and stay in touch with the leaders. .

 

Nottingham have beaten London Welsh and Plymouth at home this season with only Quins leaving with a victory.

 

Bedford after an opening day draw at Otley they have won five on the bounce and are just two points behind the leaders after six matches. They have played just twice on the road this season with the other result being a 40-24 win at Old Deer Park against London Welsh.

 

The Blues were 20-12 winners in this fixture last season and with a 33-13 win at Goldington Road did the double over Nottingham last season.  

    

Prediction: Away win by six points.  

 

 

Otley v Doncaster

 

Ninth placed Otley will be hoping to keep their improved form going with a home success over fellow Yorkshire side Doncaster at Cross Green. .

 

Otley after an opening day draw against Bedford slumped to three straight defeats but have now put together back to back wins, against London Welsh and Sedgley Park, as they look to make it three in a row.

 

Doncaster have played just twice away form home losing at the top two sides Harlequins, 27-7, and Bedford 47-17. They have though won their last two home fixtures against Coventry and Plymouth Albion to move up to 11th in the table.

 

These two sides have never met in National League rugby.

    

Prediction: Home win by eight points.  

 

 

Earth Titans v Newbury

 

Fourth placed Newbury will be looking to keep their good recent form going as they travel to seventh placed Earth Titans.

 

The Titans have won both their home matches to date this season s they look to make it a hat trick of wins. They have though managed just 13 tries so far ten fewer than Newbury have managed so far this campaign. But on the other side of the coin Newbury, 22, have conceded more than the Titans, 20.

 

Surprise package Newbury have played just twice away form home this season losing heavily at Harlequins in the end and then getting a great result at Plymouth Albion winning impressively 52-41.

 

These two sides have yet to meet in League rugby.

    

Prediction: Tough call, away win by six points.  

 

 

Sedgley Park v London Welsh

 

Big game of the day at the bottom of the table with second bottom Sedgley Park entertaining London Welsh at Park Lane.

In the try scoring stakes the Welsh have scored 10 of their 13 in the first half whilst Sedgley have scored nine if their 12 in the second half.  

 

In two matches at Park Lane this season Park have yet to win although they did fight out a 33 all draw against the Pertemps Bees having lost 29-12 to Nottingham earlier in the season.

 

The Welsh have already lost three times on the road this season but two were close matches where they picked up the losing bonus point.

 

Park won a high coring encounter at Park Lane last season 46-27 and with a 21-17 win at Old Deer Park did the double over the Welsh.

    

Prediction: Home win by seven points.
