Terrace Talk - National Three South

Check out our predictions ahead of the weekends games.

NATIONAL THREE SOUTH

Cambridge v Southend

Fourth placed Cambridge entertain eighth placed Southend this weekend looking to get their season back on track.

Having start the season with three straight league wins Cambridge have slipped of late getting knocked out of the Powergen National Trophy at Fylde and losing away in the league at Havant so they will be keen to stop the losing run.

Cambridge are unbeaten at home with wins over Reading and Rosslyn Park in the league but the one against Park was by just a single point.

Southend have picked up of late and are through to the 5th round of the Powergen National Trophy after an excellent away win at Cinderford last Saturday.

On the road this season they have lost both their league matches going down to defeats at Reading and leaders North Walsham.

Prediction: Home win by eight points.

Hertford v Havant

Fifth paced Hertford entertain third placed Havant looking to get back to winning ways after being dumped out of the Cup last Saturday at London One side Canterbury.

Hertford have now lost two in a row and will be keen to get back to winning ways with home advantage over Havant. They have won both their home matches this season in the league against Bracknell and Westcombe Park.

Havant after going out of the Powergen National Trophy bounced back with an excellent home win over Cambridge running in eight tries to make it two wins out of three at home. In their only away match they were beaten narrowly 11-10 by Bracknell

Hertford were 30-10 winners when the sides met at Highfields last season but it was honours even with Havant winning 36-10 at Hooks Lane.

Prediction: Home win by six points.

Lydney v Dings Crusaders

Second placed Lydney entertain sixth placed Dings Crusaders at Regentsholme looking to build on their excellent Cup win over National Two side Barking.

Lydney have won both their home league matches this season against the newly promoted sides Cinderford and Bridgwater & Albion and maintained that winning run against National Two side Barking who they knocked out of the Powergen National Trophy.

Lat time out Dings Crusaders were impressive 42-15 winners over previously unbeaten Hertford and will hope to carry that form through to this match if they are going to have a chance of coming away form Regentsholme with something.

Lydney were convincing winners at Regentsholme last season in this fixture 46-10 but in the reverse fixture Dings came through 21-10.

Prediction: Home win by 12 points.

North Walsham v Bracknell

Leaders North Walsham are looking to make it five out of five with this home fixture over 12th placed Bracknell.

North Walsham suffered their first defeat of the season last Saturday when they were knocked out of the Powergen National Trophy by National Two form side Esher at Scottow. They will be looking to make it three out of three at home in the league where they have topped the 40 point mark in both matches so far.

Bracknell have managed just the one win so far this season in the league. In both their away defeats at Dings and Hertford they have picked up the losing bonus point.

Last Saturday they were knocked out of the Powergen National Trophy by London One side London Scottish who continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable 49-24 win.

Prediction: Home win by 12 points.

Old Patesians v Bridgwater & Albion

11th placed Old Patesians take on 13th placed Bridgwater & Albion at Everest Road knowing a win could take them into the top half of the table.

Old Patesians have won one and lost one at home this season. On the opening day of the season they beat relegated Rosslyn Park but in their other home match this season they were narrowly beaten 13-16 by new promoted Cinderford. So after three straight defeats they will see this as a good opportunity to get back to winning ways.

Albion will be buoyed by their excellent home win over Reading last Saturday in the Powergen National Trophy beating them 42-18. They have already won away in the league this season winning at Havant on the opening day of the season in their other away match they were beaten by second placed Lydney.

Prediction: Away win by six points.

Reading v Westcombe Park

Reading were knocked out of the Powergen National Trophy last Saturday at Bridgwater & Albion 42-28 whilst Westcombe Park had a free week having already been knocked out of the competition.

Reading have played just once at home this season in the league and beat Southend 33-19, their only win in the league this season having lost all three away fixtures so far.

Combe have lost both their road trips this season with both their wins coming at Goddington Dene.

Reading were 32-29 winners in this fixture last season whilst Combe were 37-15 winners at Goddington Dene.

Prediction: Home win by six points.

Rosslyn Park v Cinderford

10th placed Rosslyn Park entertain ninth placed Cinderford as both sides look to get over their exits from the Powergen National Trophy last Saturday.

Park were knocked out of the Powergen National Trophy last weekend going down at National Two side Stourbridge. In the league this season they have been disappointing and could have won all three away matches which they ended up losing. They lost by just a point at Cambridge and two points at Southend. In their only home league match of the season they beat Reading 26-15.

Cinderford were knocked out of the Powergen National Trophy last Saturday going down to a disappoint home defeat against fellow three South side Southend.

Away form home they have already picked up a victory with a three point success at Old Patesians.

The two will be meeting for the first time in league rugby.

Prediction: Home win by nine points.
