Terrace Talk - National One

Check out our previews ahead of the weekends action.

National One

The top of the table clash sees leaders NEC Harlequins take on second placed Cornish Pirates at the Stoop.

Last weekend after thrashing Sedgley Park the previous week, Quins were only seven point winners 29-22 but did pick up the four try bonus point.

The Pirates were winners last Sunday at home to Otley and have lost just the once all season at Goldington Road against Bedford Blues.

PREDICTION: Quins by 15 points.

Third placed Bedford Blues, return to action with a tough away trip to Plymouth Albion at Brickfields.  The Blues are unbeaten winning seven in a row since their opening day draw at Cross Green against Otley.

Albion are going for a fourth successive win in the league as they look to make it four out of five at Brickfields.   After a run of three successive defeats Albion have bounced back well with three successive wins.

PREDICTION: Albion to pinch it by four points.

An all Yorkshire affair at Clifton Road as the Earth Titans entertain Doncaster with the Titans looking to maintain their good recent form.

The Titans have won four of their last six with the two defeats coming against top three sides Harlequins and Bedford Blues and at home they have won three out of four with only Harlequins leaving with the points.

After losing their first three on the road Doncaster stopped the losing run with a draw at Old Deer Park against London Welsh.

PREDICTION: Titans to win by 10.

Sixth placed Newbury entertain ninth placed Nottingham at Monks Lane looking to get their season back on track after a few disappointing results.

Newbury have lost their last three league matches including  home defeat over Coventry who followed it by also knocking them out of the Powergen National Trophy.

Nottingham after winning three of their opening five fixtures have slipped to four successive defeats to drop down the table. On the road they were winners at Sedgley Park but since them lost all three road trips.

PREDICTION: Home win by six points.

Seventh placed Exeter Chiefs return to league action with a home fixture over 12th placed Sedgley Park at the County Ground.

Exeter were busy n the Powergen National Trophy last weekend with an emphatic win over National Three North side Bradford & Bingley at Wagon Lane.

Park picked up an unexpected bonus point against Harlequins at Park Lane just a week after they were thrashed by the same side in the Powergen National Trophy.

PREDICTION: Chiefs by nine points.

10th placed Otley entertain the Pertemps Bees who are second bottom and in need to find some form to try and climb the table.

Otley have won their last two at Cross Green after drawing on the opening day against and then suffering that late loss at the hands of the leaders Harlequins. They have though lost their last two but they were on the road at Plymouth and the Cornish Pirates, tough away fixtures.

The Bees have now lost their last four league fixtures, two at home and two on the road. Away from Sharmans Cross this season they have three out of four and picked up a draw at Sedgley Park.

PREDICTION:  Otley to win by seven points.

Eighth placed Coventry entertain bottom of the table London Welsh looking to keep their improved form of late going.

Coventry have had back to back wins in the league away from home with victories at Newbury and Nottingham. At the Butts Arena though they have managed just the one win in five matches this season and need to turn that form around to continue their climb up the table.

London Welsh have lost all four of their matches on the road this season but they have managed to pick up a losing bonus point in three of them.

PREDICTION: Coventry to win by nine points.
