In at the Corner - National One

Bedford Blues 21 (Tries: Lewis, Hinkins. Con: Luke. Pens: Luke 2, Harris.). 

Nottingham 26 (Tries: Arnold 2, Fitisemanu, Kay. Cons: Woodrow 3.). 

Bedford Blues suffered their second home defeat of the season on the day NEC Harlequins go down to their first defeat of the season and fail to close the gap with both sides picking up just a losing bonus point. .

The Blues went ahead in the 12th minute when Thomas Luke slotted over a penalty goal. Nottingham responded three minutes later when second row Paul Arnold touched down for a 5-3 lead.

They got a second try on 21 minutes when flanker Nic Fitisemanu went over and this time Mark Woodrow, on his first start for the club, slotted over the conversion for a 12-3 lead.

Luke kicked a second penalty goal and when he converted a try from centre Emyr Lewis the home side went in 13-12 ahead at the break.

Early in the second half the visitors took the lead again with Arnold completing a double and Woodrow converted for 19-13.

Back came the Blues with full back James Hinkins going over to make it a one point game.

Nottingham went eight points clear on 66 minutes when right wing Josh Kay touched down and Woodrow converted.

Late in the game Mark Harris, back as a replacement after being out injured for quite a while, kicked a penalty goal to give the home side a bonus point.

 

Doncaster 24 (Tries: Cannon 2, Wood. Cons: Liley 3. Pen: Liley.). 

Otley 12 (Tries: Luffman, Dench. Con: Kitching.). 

Excellent win for Doncaster in this Yorkshire derby as they close the gap on third bottom Pertemps Bees to just two points. 

Doncaster were in front with centre John Cannon going in for a 1st minute try and Rob Liley converted for 7-0. The visitors were next to score when hooker Mark Luffman went over the home line. Before the break though Cannon got a second try and with Liley converting it and kicking a penalty goal they went in 17-5 ahead.

They went further ahead with the other centre Michael Wood going in and Liley again converted for 24-5.

The visitors did get the final score of the match with replacement back Kyle Dench going in for a late try which Robin Kitching converting.

  

Exeter Chiefs 13 (Try: Luff. Con: Yapp. Pens: Yapp 2.). 

Harlequins 8 (Try: Keogh. Pen: Mehrtens.). 

Quins 19 match winning run in National One came to an end at the County Ground with this 13-8 win.

Tony Yapp kicked the home side into a 6-0 lead with penalties in the 24th and 36th minutes. Soon after Quins hit back with the games opening try through winger Simon Keogh, his 13th of the season, and they went in a point down at the half time.

The wining score came in the 52nd minute when right wing Jason Luff touched down and Yapp added the extras.

The Quins did get the final score when Andrew Mehrtens slotted over a 74th minute penalty goal which gave them the bonus point.

Despite the defeat Quins stay 13 points clear with Bedford Blues suffering a surprise home defeat at the hands of Nottingham.    

 

London Welsh 44 (Tries: Swales 2, Storey, Chiltern, Marsters, Ritchie, Quigley, Anayi. Cons: Pugh, Morgan.). 

Sedgley Park 33 (Tries: Feeley, Woof, Jones, Skurr, Rowe. Cons: Jones 4.). 

Try feast at Old Deer Park as 13 tries were scored during the afternoon with the home side scoring eight of them.   

The Welsh were quick out of the blocks with tries from second row Howard Quigley and right wing Gareth Swales and Dylan Pugh putting over a conversion for a 12-0 lead after nine minutes.

Park responded with a try of their own in the 12th minute from No 8 Jon Skurr. But by the 24th minute the home side had the four try bonus point in the bag with prop Johnny Marsters and centre James Storey crossing the visitors try line for a 22-7 lead.

By half time though the visitors had reduced the home lead to three points with tries from winger Jon Feeley and fly half Phil Jones, who also added a conversion.

Two early tries in the second half saw the home side pull away into a 32-19 lead.

The rest of the action took place late in the game when Park second row Chris owe went over the Welsh line for a fourth try for the visitors to secure the bonus point.

Both sides scored again as the game went into injury time and with the win the Welsh moved up to the lofty heights of ninth in the league table.

  

Plymouth Albion 34 (Tries: Defty, Too’ala. Rice, Fabian, Van Eyk. Cons: Defty 3. Pen: Defty.). 

Coventry 27 (Tries: Millard, Tiueti, Johnson, Bucknall. Cons: Moore 2. Pen: Moore.). 

Plymouth Albion consolidate fourth place with this home win over Coventry picking up all five points on offer.  

It was the visitors who took the lead with centre David Tiueti going over and James Moore converted. Four minutes later and the home side were level with fly half Nick Defty, getting a rare start, going over and adding the conversion. Coventry responded well and were back in front 22-7 after half an hour after tries from flanker Tom Johnson and prop Peter Bucknall with Moore adding a conversion and a penalty goal.

Before the break Albion got back into the game with No 8 Alfie Too’ala going over and Defty again converting to send them in eight points down.

The game turned in the first ten minutes of the second half with tries from prop Martin Rice and right wing Jon Fabian and a Defty conversion gave Albion a 26-22 lead.

Coventry to their credit responded four minutes later with right wing David Millard going in to make it 27-26.

Defty kicked the home side in front with a penalty goal in the 69th minute and they sealed the win with a fifth try as centre Regardt Van Eyk touched down.
