Tabard 7 (Try: Buchholz. Con: Whelan.).
Old Albanians 55 (Tries: Panting 2, Botterman 2, Bulatovic 2, Osman. Cons: Gregg 6. Pen: Gregg.).
Tabards woes continued on Saturday as they found themselves 22 points down in the first quarter and, despite trying to recover the situation they just went further behind and ended up the losers to local side Old Albanians by 55 points to 7.
This was not a good game of rugby, neither side looking particularly competent on the day but Tabard, fielding yet another wholly changed side, were extremely slow into their stride and paid the penalty as Albanians capitalised on defensive errors early on. Albanians actually opened their scoring with a penalty goal, kicked by stand off Gregg, after Tabard were caught handling in the ruck. They then scored their first try, claimed by hooker, Greg Botterman, after a forward drive. Centre Osman then added a try after a comparatively easy break through the Tabard defensive line and this was quickly followed by a try from wing Panting and, with two conversions, Albanians were 22 points up and Tabard were struggling. Although Tabard began to put some rugby together they needed some inspiration and prop Adam Gelman provided this with a tremendous surge up field that at least gave the Tabard supporters something to cheer about but unfortunately Tabard were unable to continue the move over the try line.
Albanians however still managed to score when Girven followed up a kick ahead and scored. Tabard then pulled a score back when, after considerable pressure, centre Hayden Buchholz went over following a break by scrum half Jamie Whelan. Whelan converted but Tabards temporary joy was short lived as Albanians scored another try in first half injury time from Panting.
In the second half Tabard did not look so vulnerable and there were good runs from wing Neil Hopcroft and stand off Paul Gibson, with good support coming from the Tabard back row of Mike Hyde, Jurie De Wet and Aaron Gilbert-Smith but it was just not good enough and Albanians furthered their score with converted tries from Botterman, and two from second row Bulatovic to complete the scoring and give Tabard another defeat by 55 points to 7. |
