Terrace Talk - National Two

 

Esher v Waterloo

 

Second placed Waterloo travel to third placed Esher looking to put the final nail in Esher outside chance of catching them in the race for a promotion spot into National One for next season.

 

Esher have fell of the pace of late with three defeats in their last five matches and need Waterloo to lose at least two of their remaining three matches assuming they can beat them on Saturday.

 

Waterloo know a victory he would all but guarantee them promotion back into National One.

They are in form and are joint top of the Form Guide along with Moseley with both side’s record six wins in their last six starts.

  

 

When the sides met at Blundellsands earlier in the season it ended in a 16 all draw with Esher disappointed not to have come away with the win.

 

PREDICTION: Tough call will go Esher by four points, because they have to win.       

 

 

Halifax v Moseley

 

Leaders Moseley travel to Yorkshire to face ninth placed Halifax knowing if they win and Waterloo defeat Esher they are promoted.

 

Halifax have improved of late to climb the table with a run of four wins in their last six matches including an excellent away win at Barking last Saturday.

 

Moseley are joint top of the Form Guide table along with Waterloo with six wins out of six.

On the road they have lost twice this season but won the other eight matches.

 

Halifax turned in a good performance at Moseley earlier in the season before going down to an 18-9 defeat.

 

PREDICTION: Moseley to continue towards National Two title with 10 point win.        

 

 

Harrogate v Blackheath

 

Second bottom Harrogate entertain 10th placed Blackheath looking for the win to take them a step nearer safety for another season of National Two rugby.   

 

Harrogate are unbeaten in their last three with two wins and a draw including last Saturdays excellent away win at Stourbridge and are now nine points clear of bottom of the table Orrell.

At home they have still only won one and drawn one of their 11 matches.

 

Blackheath pulled off an excellent home win over promotion chasing Esher last Saturday at the Rectory Field and all but guaranteed their survival in National Two for another season as they are now 15 points clear of bottom of the table Orrell with four matches remaining.

.  

 

Blackheath were narrow 30-26 winners when the sides met at the Rectory Field earlier in the season.

 

PREDICTION: Home win by seven points for Harrogate. .      

 

 

Henley Hawks v Manchester

 

11th placed Henley Hawks are at home to eighth placed Manchester knowing a win would all but guarantee them National Two rugby next season.   

 

Henley Hawks after putting together a two match winning run have slipped to three successive defeats and will be keen to see that run come to an end.

At Dry Leas this season the Hawks have just four wins in 11 matches to date and would like to finish the season with home wins over Manchester and Blackheath.

 

Manchester after a three match losing run got a draw at Harrogate and were home winners against Redruth last Saturday.

On the road they do not have the best of records with three wins and a draw from 11 matches.   

 

Manchester were narrow winners 21-20 when the sides met earlier in the season at Grove Lane.

 

PREDICTION: Tough call but will go Hawks by five.        

 

 

Orrell v Launceston

 

Bottom of the table Orrell entertain fourth placed Launceston knowing they really need to win their last four matches to have a chance of escaping the drop to National Three North for the first time ever.  

 

Orrell really have to win their final four matches to have a chance of staying in National Two for next season.

 

Launceston returned to winning ways last weekend with a narrow 6-3 win at home to Henley Hawks after drawing at Redruth and losing at home to Harrogate.

On the road they have picked up five wins and two draws in 11 matches which is not a bad record.   

 

Launceston, travel to Edge Hall Road looking to do the double over Orrell having won 28-17 at Polson Bridge earlier in the season.

 

PREDICTION: Got to go Launceston by seven points.      

 

 

Redruth v Stourbridge

 

Seventh placed Redruth entertain third bottom Stourbridge looking to return to winning ways.

 

Redruth are bottom of the Form Guide at the moment with just a win and a draw in their last six matches which has seen them drop down the league table.  

In 11 matches at home this season they have eight wins and a draw and just two defeats.

 

Stourbridge are also at the wrong end of the Form Guide with just one win and a draw in their last six matches as they look to avoid a third straight defeat.  

On the road Stourbridge did well early on in the season but have slipped of late and have five wins out of 11 matches played.

 

Redruth are looking to do the double over Stourbridge having already beaten them at Stourton earlier in the season 25-6.  

 

PREDICTION:  Redruth to win at home by 10 points.        

 

 

Wharfedale v Barking

 

Sixth placed Wharfedale entertain fifth placed Barking with both sides looking to return to winning ways.

 

Wharfedale will be looking to finish the season strongly after a run of just two wins in their last six matches.

A win for Wharfedale would see them move above Barking in the table depending on bonus points.

 

Barking are also at the wrong end of the Form Guide with just one win and one draw in their last six matches.

On the road

 

When the sides met at Barking earlier in the season Wharfedale left with a narrow 15-11 win as they look to do the double over their opponents.   

 

PREDICTION: Wharfedale to win by eight points.
