Fylde 35 (Tries: Royle 4. Cons: Scott 3. Pens: Scott 3.).

Hull Ionians 35 (Tries: Poskitt 2, Boyd, Smith, Watson. Cons: Boyd 2. Pens: Boyd 2).

It was clear from the start that the lineouts for both teams would be a lottery due to the wind, when on 8 mins the impressive Poskitt went over for a try converted by Boyd - 7 : nil to Hull

That seemed to awaken Fylde who equalised after a period of possession by the try of the game by Nick Royle who collected the ball on half way, skipped by five tacklers to plant the ball under the posts. Easy conversion by Mike Scott.

The ball seemed to get bogged down in mid field when Fylde conceded a penalty in range duly converted by Boyd. That seemed to set the pattern with Fylde penalised time after time. Just as the players were thinking about their half time brews, up popped the man Royle again. This time breaking some woeful attempts at tackling, to once more cross the whitewash. Scott again kicking the conversion - 14 : 10 half time.
The second half started with the wind in Fylde's favour but the defensive lapses were catching and ultimately both sides downfall. Ten minutes in and Fylde's defence went AWOL letting in Boyd for a try which he failed to convert -
14 : 15

Two Mike Scott penalties brought the score to 20 : 15 when Royle completed his hat trick with a kick ahead by Scott, chased down by Royle forcing his opposite number to fumble and simply picked up and popped in the corner 25 : 15.

That lead was short lived when the increasingly influential outside centre Poskitt went in for his second try duly converted by Boyd who was also on target five minutes later with a penalty 25 : 25. Parity was short lived by virtue of Paul Newton's awareness at the scrummage. He "nicked" the ball, shipped it to Dave Wiseman who threw a lovely popped pass out to - yes you've guessed it - Nick Royle for a well deserved fourth try goaled by Scott 32  25.
Less than five minutes on the clock when Hull's Ben Smith made amends for his earlier howler by strolling through an absent defensive line to score wide out on the left. Boyd failed with his conversion 32 : 30.

Then on the stroke of 80 minutes Mike Scott scored another penalty to make it 35 : 30. From the restart Fylde were on the attack and secured a five metre scrum with the put in. Roger Banks broke from the back to score a well crafted try - game over. However the referee saw it differently much to everyone's surprise including the Hull players judging by the look on their faces. A wheeled scrum through 90 degrees was the call.

Yes folks, the drama had yet another twist. Hull managed to wrestle the ball and after some exchanges the player coach Mike Watson, who in fact is even older than Derek Eves, crashed over for an unconverted try in the 88th minute.
