In at the Corner - Powergen London One

Canterbury 38 (Tries: De Kock, Reilly, M Littlechild, Bernthal, Hinkins, O’Gorman. Cons: Reilly 4.).

Bishop’s Stortford 0 ().

Champions Canterbury sealed the title with this convincing home win over Bishop’s Stortford scoring six unanswered tries.

The first half was a close affair with the only score coming from a try from No 8 Rowan O’Gorman in the 19th minute to go in 5-0 ahead.

By the end of the third quarter they had pulled away into a 26-0 lead with three more tries.

They got two more in the final quarter with centre James O’Reilly getting one of them to add to his four conversions to move to 245 points for the season including nine tries.

.

London Scottish 20 (Tries: Watt, Heke, Smeaton. Con: Bruce. Pen: Bruce.).

Richmond 44 (Tries: Tennuci 3, Ajuma, MacLennan, Whitfield. Cons: Hart 4. Pens: Hart 2.).

Chris Tennuci moved clear at the top of the try scorers list with his hat trick against London Scottish at the Athletic Ground on Saturday to guarantee second spot in London One and a play off place against Clifton of South West One.

Richmond completed the double over Scottish running in six tries and leading 22-8 at the break.

There was also a try for hooker James Whitfield his 17th of the season and enough to place him second behind Tennuci in the try scoring list.

Full back Matt Hart added 14 points with the boot to move onto 174 for the season.

Worthing 27 (Tries: Coulson, Butler, Dove. Cons: Howells 3. Pens: Howells 2.).

Ealing 39 (Tries: Hughes, Bundy, Essien, Carr, Okoye, Playll. Cons: Ward 3. Pen: Ward.).

Excellent away win for Ealing at Worthing out scoring the home side five tries to three.  .

Ealing finished the half strongly with three tries in the final ten minutes of the half to lead 20-6. Dan Howells had given the home side a 6-3 lead in the first 11 minutes with Ben Ward replying for the visitors.

But tries from Flanker Essien, centre Hughes and second row Playll turned the match round as the visitors built up a 14 point lead.

In the third quarter they extended the lead with two more tries to go well clear at 32-6.

Two tries in three minutes got the home side back to 32-20 with winger Ben Coulson and replacement Terry Butler touching down and Howells converting them both.

Both side scored tries in the final 10 minutes but the match was already won by them and Ealing picked up the points.

Old Colfeians 25 (Tries: Wicks, Burton, Gardner. Cons: Howard 2. Pens: Howard 2.).

Haywards Heath 54 (Tries: McGovern, Otuhouma 2, Skelton, Redmayne, Cook, Wattam, Marienberg. Cons: Ashton 7.).

After a tight first half which saw the home side narrowly win 13-12 the visitors stormed back in the second half for a comfortable win.

A try from centre Alex Wicks put the home side ahead and with Andy Howard converting they were 7-0 ahead. Tries from No 8 Guy Cook and prop Bobby Skelton saw HH take a 12-10 lead but a second Howard penalty goal saw OC lead at the break.

The second half was a different story and after OC extended their lead two minutes in through a Peter Burton try it was the visitors with five unanswered tries who took control to go into a 47-18 lead. Leading the way was winger Leiataua Otuhouma with a double whilst Owen Ashton converted seven of the eight tries. .

Tabard 7 (Try: Ashcroft. Con: Buchholz.).

Barnes 55 (Tries: Przychoki, Gomes Da Silva, Farmer 3, Spencer, McLaughlin. Cons: Farmer 6. Pen: Farmer.).

Tabards last home game, of what has to have been a difficult season, did not see them producing a league upset but they can take consolation form the fact that they defended steadfastly throughout against a strong Barnes team and the final score did not reflect the effort put in by Tabard.

For Tabard, centre Louis Botha was outstanding and, of the threequarters wing Michael Thomas had one of his best games defensively as well as showing that he had the pace for a top class winger.   In the forwards second rows Joe Armstrong and Mike Finnie performed well and prop Adam Gelman had a forceful game.

When the game started it looked as though Tabard would keep Barnes at bay with solid defence although a paucity of possession meant that Tabard had to weather an increasing storm.   Eventually the defences broke and Barnes were over for a try from their flanker McLaughlin, converted by Farmer, who then added a penalty just into the second quarter to put Barnes 10 points up.   Further tries from wing Przychoki and stand off Farmer put Barnes firmly in the driving seat at the end of the first half.

In the second half, although Tabard put together some fine attacking moves, they were pulled down before they could capitalise and Barnes managed to ride their wave of confidence and stretch the score to 36 points with out reply.   Then, Tabard show their resilience when Botha managed to finally slip the cover defence and pop up a perfect pass for wing Dan Ashcroft to scamper up the touchline.   With the cover coming across, Ashcroft chipped over the defence and won the race for the touchdown for a good try.   Flanker Hayden Buchholz added the conversion.   However, Tabards moment of joy was short lived and Barnes went on to complete their scoring with Farmer getting three tries and kicking 6 conversions, helping his team to the 55 points to seven victory..

Old Albanians 36 (Tries: Osman, Botterman 3, Evans. Cons: Gregg 4. Pen: Gregg.).

Staines 3 (Pen: Knill.).

This match went to uncontested scrums after 5 and a half minutes in the second half.  The score at the time was 31-3.

Centre Russell Osman put the home side ahead in the 8th minute with a try and Richard Gregg converted. David Knill replied with a penalty goal for Staines in the 12th minute but Gregg cancelled that out with one of his own in the 22nd minute.

Hooker Gregg Botterman went over for a couple of tries in the final 10 minutes of the half and with Gregg converting the both they went in 24-3 ahead.

They got two more tries early in the second half before the match went to uncontested scrums and OA took the win.
