In at the Corner - National One

Coventry 17 (Tries: K Johnson (10), Dixon (50), Dorrian (72). Con: Russell.       

Bedford Blues 24 (Tries: Pritchard (40), Penalty try  2 (40, 62). Cons: Pritchard 3. Pen: Pritchard (22).      

Bedford were away day winners at Coventry to maintain seventh place in the table.    

Coventry were first on the scoreboard when Kurt Johnson on as a temporary replacement with over for a try and Ben Russell converted. A minute later James Pritchard put over a penalty goal and on 40 minutes but the Blues ahead with a try which he converted to make it 10-7. In injury time they were awarded a penalty try and Pritchard slotted over the conversion to make it 17-7 at half time.

10 minutes into the second half and Coventry were right back into it when right wing George Dixon went over to make it 17-12.

Just after the hour mark the visitors were awarded a second penalty try and with Pritchard converting they were 24-14 ahead. Coventry claimed a bonus point late on when fly half Myles Dorrian went over.

 

Exeter Chiefs 11 (Try: Kingdom (64). Pens: Yapp 2 (5, 74).     

Cornish Pirates 6 (Pens: Di Bernardo 2 (40, 55)    

The big match of the day went the way of the Chiefs in front of 5,944 fans.

Tony Yapp gave the home side a 5th minute lead with a penalty goal. But with an injury time penalty goal from Alberto Di Bernardo they were level at the break.

15 minutes into the second half and the Pirates were in front with Di Bernardo putting over his second penalty goal. The Chiefs were back in front on 64 minutes when left wing Gary Kingdom went over for the games only try. Yapp missed the conversion but put over a 74th minute penalty goal to seal the win.     

 

Moseley 6 (Pens: Thomas 2 (17, 38)     

Leeds Tykes 29 (Tries: Hepworth (11), Biggs (20), Oakley (54), Paul (61). Cons: Hinton 2, Welding. Pen: Hinton (8).      

Leaders Leeds Tykes left with all five points to maintain their eight point lead at the top of the table.     

Leigh Hinton kicked the Tykes ahead with an 8th minute penalty goal. Three minutes later they were over for the games first try as Jonny Hepworth went over and Hinton converted for 10-0. Oliver Thomas pulled three points back for the home side before wing Tom Biggs got the second visitors try on 20 minutes to give them a 17-3 lead with Hinton converting. Thomas pulled another three points back late in the half for the home side.

In the second half Leeds ran in two more tries with No 8 Rhys Oakley and prop Danny Paul touching down to complete a comfortable win.

Otley 9 (Pens: Shuttleworth 3 (25, 64, 79).     

Doncaster 19 (Tries: Bailey 2 (40, 80), Forster (72). Cons: Woodrow 2.      

Doncaster up to third after this away win at Otley. The visitors went ahead on 25 minutes when fly half Ian Shuttleworth put over a penalty goal. Doncaster took the lead on 40 minutes when winger Paul Bailey went over for the games opening try and Mark Woodrow converted.      

Shuttleworth pulled three points back after 24 minutes of the second half but a try from Doncaster’s prolific flanker Jason Forster, which Woodrow converted, took him to 22 for the season and gave Doncaster a 12-6 lead. Shuttleworth pulled three points back on 79 minutes for Otley but a minute later Bailey completed a double to seal the win.

 

Pertemps Bees 43 (Tries: Qera 2 (23, 80), Henderson (40), Petty (43), Miles (54), Nutthal (57). Cons: Higgins 5. Pen: Higgins (8).       

Waterloo 21 (Tries: Planchant (50), Ince (62), Davies (80). Cons: Davies 3.       

The Bees pick up their 11th win of the season with this comfortable win over Waterloo at Sharmans Cross. Jon Higgins put the home side ahead with an 8th minute penalty goal. It took till the 23rd minute for the first Bees try as Flanker Akapusi Qera touched down and Higgins converted. Just before the break they got a second try and Higgins again converted and they led 17-0 at the break.

Try number three came on 43 minutes with scrum half Rod Petty going over and Higgins kept his 100% kicking with the conversion for 24-0. Waterloo made it over the home try line on 50 minutes with second row Chris Planchant going over and Alex Davies converted. Tries from hooker Matt Miles and full back Matt Nuthall and with Higgins converted both to make it 38-7 after 58 minutes. In the final quarter Waterloo ran in two tries and the home side one as the Bees ran out comfortable winners.      

 

Plymouth Albion 29 (Tries: Hayes (14), Sestaret 3 (42, 56, 80). Cons: Van Eyk 3. Pen: Van Eyk (7).       

Newbury 7 (Try: DamuDamu (64). Con: Walsh.       

Comfortable home win for Plymouth Albion over Newbury at Brickfields.    

Albion were ahead after seven minutes when centre Regardt Van Eyk put over a penalty goal. Second row Tom Hayes went over for a try and Van Eyk converted for 10-0 which was the half time score.

The second half belonged to left wing Nicolas Sestaret who score a hat trick and moved onto 19 tries for the season as he help his side get a try bonus point. Newbury did manage a try with flanker Isoa DamuDamu went over for a score on 65 minutes which Tim Walsh converted.

Earth Titans 28 (Tries: Bornman (10), Hennessy (16), Stewart (21), Fourie (75). Cons: Steenson. 4.     

Sedgley Park 7 (Try: Du Plessis (42). Con: Jones.     

Comfortable home win for Earth Titans over Sedgley Park to keep them eight points behind league leaders Leeds Tykes with a game in hand.

The Tykes were over the Park line in the 10th minute with No 8 Jannie Bornman going over and Gareth Steenson converted for 7-0. Six minutes later it was 14-0 with Flanker Brendan Hennessy touching down and Steenson was again on target with the conversion. They were 21-0 ahead on 20 minutes and a big score looked on the cards as centre Shane Stewart went over the Park line and Steenson converted. That was the end of the first half scoring. In the second half Park were on the scoreboard after just two minutes with prop Petrus Du Plessis touching down and Phil Jones converted.

It took the home side till the 75th minute flanker Hendrie Fourie touched down and Steenson added the extras.    .  

 

Nottingham 21 (Tries: Thompson (56), Parr (61), Wyles (73).       

London Welsh 23 (Tries: Ulph (12), Taylor (71). Cons: Ulph 2. Pens: Ulph 3 (4, 31, 40) )     

Excellent away win for London Welsh who are now 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

The Welsh were 16-0 ahead at half time with full back Sam Ulph scoring all the points.

He put over a 4th minute penalty goal went over for a try on 12 minutes slotted over the conversion and put over a couple more penalty goals.

In the second half the home side made inroads into the Welsh lead and pulled it back to 16-14 with tries form Ben Thompson and Matt Parr both on as half time replacements went over for tries in the opening 22 minutes of the half. On 70 minutes the Welsh went two scores clear with centre Neil Taylor touching down and Ulph again on target with the conversion.

A couple of minutes later another Nottingham replacement Chris Wyles went over for a try and Tom Barlow out over his third conversion of the afternoon. To make it a tense final few minutes.
