Caldy 58 (Tries: Young, Ross, Coast, Woof, Lyon 2, Wylie. Cons: Mason 7. Pens: Mason 3.
Stockport 14 (Tries: Hopkinson, Pearson. Cons: Hopkinson 2
Caldy Kicked-Off and the visitors woes started early as Hooker Chris Weeks was sin binned on four minutes and Jake Lyon burst through to score. Simon Mason added the good conversion Caldy looked as through they could relax and take this game at a canter. From the restart the opposition showed what they were made of and a sustained period of pressure saw stand-in centre Pearson run in for a try and Richard Hopkinson to convert for 7 – 7. Stung by the score Caldy regained possession immediately from the restart and numerous uninterrupted phases later they moved the ball left to right for Jake Lyon to score his second. Mason from 35 metres out on the angle converted for 14 – 7. From then on it was a composed Caldy side who settled into a combative rhythm that Stockport could not live with. Mason added a penalty on 21 minutes and then another to take the score on to 20 – 7. Caldy now started to run the ball through their back off a secure platform and some superb handling moving the ball swiftly from left to right saw Chris Young run in to score in the corner. With Simon Mason adding the extras Caldy went in at the interval with the score at 27 – 7.
The rain began to pour down but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the Caldy support as Mon kept the score ticking over with a penalty on 48 minutes for 30 -7. With 20 minutes remaining Caldy were able to sustain pace and skill that the visitors could not match. The home side produced a training ground move from a 5 metre scrummage and with the ball moved at pace across the back line where replacement fullback Ben Wylie joined to score. Another fine move saw Craig Ross go over. Fine interplay between Wylie and left winger Liam Devaney saw the ball passed onto Shaun Woof to score. With tries coming for the majority of the backs it was fitting for Marcus Coast to produce a trade mark burst up the middle to score 58 – 7. With the game gone Caldy missed tackles and fullback Richard Hopkinson gain a consolation try that he converted to leave the score 58 – 14. Particular mention should be made of 19 year Old Luke Pearce who had travelled from the South West to referee this game. He conducted proceedings quite expertly and looks to have a big future.

New Brighton 3 (Pen: Simpson.
Report courtesy of Huddersfield.
A barely playable surface probably helped the visitors to contest this poor game and belie their league position. It certainly bogged down Huddersfield's usually fluid style, and New Brighton's forwards generally suceeded in denying Huddersfield good ball, keeping themselves in contention, but as a spectacle it was dire. In the end only Huddersfield's immediate ambitions were met, and New Brighton remain in peril at the foot of the table, but they were only a score away from a priceless win until the host's unconverted try on 60 minutes.
New Brighton made a spirited start and enjoyed most of the first half, with Huddersfield coming back strongly as the interval approached. Stand-off Chris Johnson opened for Huddersfield after six minutes with a penalty, only for winger Gareth Simpson to equalise with a penalty two minutes later. Scrum-half Damian Clayton saved Huddersfield when he won a race to touch down after the visitor's best move of the match.
A rare flowing movement involving home flankers Hamish Pratt and Mark Whitehead, and lock George Hinchliff, was stopped just under the posts, but Huddersfield surrendered good position when they lost Clayton to a yellow card after 38 minutes, New Brighton clearing with the resulting penalty. Huddersfield finally took the lead with a second-half penalty from Johnson, helped on its way by the top of the crossbar, after 54 minutes, and Whitehead took them marginally into the safety zone with an unconverted try from a ruck after 60 minutes, but that was as exciting as it got.
