Comfortable away win for Cambridge away at Bradford & Bingley which opens up a 25 point gap between the two in the league table. .

Esher 39(Tries: Armitage 3 (20, 24, 44), Moore (22), Briggs (46), Hallett (63). Cons: Hallett 2, Leek. Pen: Hallett (10). .

Cornish All Blacks 19 (Tries: Sprangle 2 (59, 70), Birkett (65). Cons: Young 2.

After 10 minutes Esher’s Neil Hallett put the first points on the board with a penalty this after the Launceston scrum had been penalised.

Both teams played good open rugby in what can be described as difficult under foot conditions. However it was Esher who looked the sharper in the opening encounters giving Launceston very little opportunity as the home side tackled and defended like lions. On 20 minutes Bevon Armitage scored the first of what would be a hat-trick of tries. Some neat running by the Esher backs set up Armitage to go over in the left hand corner, Hallett missing the conversion from out wide (8-0). This opened up the floodgates as Esher then went on a rampage and scored two further tries in the space of 3 minutes. Firstly Matt Moore went over and then Armitage for his second, this one converted by Hallett. This gave Esher a cushion of 20 point to nil after 24 minutes. Launceston then had the better of the next 10 minutes as they bombarded the Esher line with some line out and drives and some swift back line play. Esher held their nerve and refused to give in and successfully holding out the Cornish All Blacks. The only concern for Esher was losing Matt Leek to the sin bin for 10 minutes after some hand bags at dawn with his opposite number.

With the 20 point gap and looking comfortable Esher began in free spirit mood and increased their lead after 44 minutes through Armitage’s hat- trick. Two minutes later the backs were in fine fettle and Richard Briggs got his name on the score sheet, Hallett converting Esher led 32 points to Nil. Launceston are not a side to be under estimated and although down to 14 men as they lost their fly half Sam Young to the sin bin for more hand bag fighting, they attacked the Esher defensive line with that Cornish vigour and they were rewarded on 59 minutes as Wayne Sprangle went over for an easy try as Esher defence failed to make their tackles. Esher then cancelled out this score within minutes as again the backline worked some magic and with the ball ending up out on the left wing Hallett joined the line to score but in the process received a knock that forced him to withdraw from the game. In his absence Matt Leek slotted over the conversion and Esher held a 39 point to 5 lead. Launceston seem to play better with 14 men as now they lost flanker Josh Lord to the sin bin they bounces back and scored two tries against a slightly leg weary Esher who had given everything. Tries by Young and another by Sprangle converted by Young ultimately flattered Launceston. Esher held their nerve for the final 10 minutes and refused to allow their visitors a 4th try and so denying them any points at all.

Esher ran out comfortable victors 39 points to 19.
