Terrace Talk - National Three North

Cleckheaton v Rugby Lions

Forth placed Rugby Lions travel to second bottom Cleckheaton with both sides needing the points for differing reasons. .

Cleckheaton have suffered five straight defeats and find themselves in dire trouble 12 points off safety with just five matches remaining.

At home this season they have managed only three wins in ten matches.

The Lions are six points behind second place at the moment but there are some interesting matches ahead in the run in and if they were to win all five of their matches they might have a chance of a top two finish.

On the road they have they have only managed five wins in ten matches and lost a couple of matches they should have won which would have put them in a better position.

Rugby Lions were only narrow winners when the sides met earlier in the season at Webb Ellis Road, 11-6.

Prediction: An away win for Rugby Lions by 12 points as they look to keep the pressure on the three sides above them in the league table.

Hull Ionians v Darlington Mowden Park

12th placed Hull Ionians entertain sixth placed Darlington Mowden Park in a game they must win as they look to survive in National Three North for another season. .

In the battle to avoid the drop Ionians need to win this match to try and move out of the bottom three and catch the group above them and Darlington who have just started to open up a little gap. At home this season they have been poor managing just three wins in ten matches.

Mowden Park have climbed to the lofty heights of sixth place and are looking for a fourth straight win. On the road they have not been as good as they have at home and have managed just two wins and a draw in 11 matches.

When the sides met earlier in the season it was the North East sides who came out on top winning 30-23.

Prediction: A home win for Ionians in a must win game for them by six points.

Leicester Lions v Darlington

Ninth placed Leicester Lions entertain 11th placed Darlington knowing a win here would be a huge step to safety and National League rugby for another season. .

Leicester Lions have improved dramatically of late and sit in third place in the Form Guide with four wins and a draw in their last six matches.

At home the Lions have a good home record with eight wins and a draw in 11 matches.

Darlington are at the wrong end of the Form Guide with just one win in their last six matches and are just a point above the drop zone.

On the road they have a poor record with just three wins in ten matches although they did pick up a valuable 24-23 win at West Park in their last away match.

When the sides met at Blackwell Meadows earlier in the season the North East side ran out 29-15 winners.

Prediction: A comfortable home win for the Lions by 12 points at Westleigh Park against Darlington. .

Macclesfield v Blaydon

Second placed Blaydon travel to eighth Macclesfield knowing a win here could see them join Tynedale level on points if the leaders were to slip up at Preston Grasshoppers.

Macclesfield still need another win or two to avoid being dragged right into the relegation zone but have not been in good form of late with just one win in their last five matches.

At home they have done well with seven wins in ten matches.

Blaydon are sixth in the Form Guide with two defeats in their last six matches but have put together a three match winning run to get their season back on track.

Morley have won three and lost three of their last six matches and seem to be playing better and got close in a couple of defeats.

At home they have done well with eight wins and a draw and only Blaydon and Rugby Lions leaving with wins.

Fylde are going through a bad spell at the moment with just two wins in six matches although they did end a four match losing run last time out.

On the road they have managed to pick up four wins in ten matches and have fell of the pace over the last couple of months.

When the sides met at Woodlands earlier in the season Fylde were 25-10 winners.

Prediction: On current form have to go home win by five points for Morley over Fylde.

Preston Grasshoppers v Tynedale

The match of the day sees league leaders Tynedale travel to third placed Preston Grasshoppers with high stakes for both sides.

Preston need to win this to try and stay in touch with the top two otherwise they could be at least two wins behind Blaydon.

They are in good form with five straight wins which has seen them get back in the promotion hunt after falling away mid season. At home they have a good record with eight wins and a draw in ten matches and only Hull Ionians have left with a win.

Tynedale could take a huge step towards at least a top two finish with a win at Lightfoot Green on Saturday afternoon.

They top the Form Guide with six wins in their last six matches and on the road this season have picked up eight wins and a draw in 11 matches.

When the sides met earlier in the season at Tynedale the home side were comfortable winners, 34-8

Prediction: A home win by three for Hoppers.

Orrell v West Park St Helens

10th placed West Park St Helens travel to Edge Hall road to take on bottom of the table Orrell knowing a win could lift them two or three places in the league table depending on other results. .

Orrell are still looking for that elusive first win after 21 matches without success. At home they have lost all 11 matches to date.

West Park St Helens are just four points above the relegation zone and a win here should move them up the table. On the road they have picked up two wins and a draw with the wins coming at Cleckheaton and Hull Ionians.

Park were 37-19 winners when the two sides met at Redrocks earlier in the season.

Prediction: Away win for Park by 15 points at Edge Hall Road against Orrell.
