In at the Corner - National Three North

Cleckheaton 5 (Try: Woodhead (74).       

Blaydon 57 (Tries: Shaw (3), Clarke (13), Smith (15), Fenby 3 (25, 59, 65), J Kyle 2 (30, 38), Altona (52). Cons: Mellalieu 6.

Comfortable nine try win for Blaydon as they look to keep the pressure on leaders Tynedale at the top pf the National Three North league table.

They were ahead after just three minutes with centre Martin Shaw going over and Anthony Mellalieu converting.

By half time they were 38 ahead with six tries scored including a double for scrum half James Kyle.

In the second half they ran in just three more tries with winger Andrew Fenby going on to get a hat trick to continue his excellent try scoring form.  

 

Hull Ionians 27 (Tries: Wilson (15), Greene (45), Stephenson (49), Watson (61). Con: Birch 2. Pen: Birch (76).     

West Park St Helens 15 (Tries: Soutar (39), Turner (73). Con: Soutar. Pen: Soutar (17).  

Hull Ionians secured their National League status for another season after this home win over West Park St Helens and moved into ninth place in the table.

They were ahead on 15 minutes with second row Richard Wilson going over for a try and Karl Birch converted.

West Park though went in at half time n front after a 10 point haul form Andy Soutar who slotted over a penalty goal and then converted his own 39th minute try.

Early in the second half and Ionians were back in front with scrum half James Green touching down and Birch converting. They pulled 19-10 ahead on 49 minutes after centre Gary Stephenson went over. The other second row Mick Watson got the fourth try on 61 minutes to move two scores clear. Late in the game Park wing Mark Turner went over for the visitors before Birch put over a late penalty goal for the home side to wrap up the win.

 

Leicester Lions 36 (Tries: F Lea 3 (8, 28, 41). Hill (18), Twelvetrees (32), Mitchell (72). Cons: Boden 3.     

Morley 12 (Tries: Whata (40), Field (55). Con: Boyd.

Another win for Leicester Lions who move to within three points of a top half of the table finish after beating sixth placed Morley by six tries to two.

Four tries in the opening 32 minutes saw the Lions go into a match winning 24-0 lead with a double form Feofaaku Lea and tries fro the backs Joe Hill and William Twelvetrees.

Late in the half the visitors managed a try as right wing Kris Whata went over and Glen Boyd converted.

In the opening minute of the second half Lea completed a hat trick. After this the scoring slowed down and both sides managed a further try apiece.  

 

Macclesfield 33 (Tries: Goodfellow (45), Allen 2 (55, 61), D Jones (77). Cons: Winney 2. Pens: Winney 3 (7, 19, 24).      

Darlington 16 (Try: Andrew (4). Con: Rayner. Pens: Rayner 3 (12, 21, 27).

Macclesfield secured their National League future for another season with this win over Darlington who are now all but relegated.

It was the visitors who led at half time 16-6 but four second half tries saw the home side home. In the first half three Charles Winney penalty goals kept the home side in touch after Scrum half David Andrew gave Darlington an early lead, Charlie Rayner converted and put over three penalty goals.

Tries form the front row pair of Scott Goodfellow and Peter Allen, a brace, saw Macclesfield assert control and move 26-16 ahead. The final try came form full back David Jones as they secured the bonus point and left Darlington nine points adrift with two matches remaining.  

 

Orrell 0       

Fylde 106 (Tries: Royle 7 (1, 33, 38, 40, 47, 56 78), Fluker (3), Brennand 2 (9, 64), Bowman (19), O’Grady 2 (42, 46), Waller (52), Beaumont (58), Reeves (76). Cons: Armstrong 13.

Orrell conceded over 100 points for the third time in recent weeks but the first time at home.

Leading the way for the visitors was winger Nick Royle with seven tries including four in the first half. There were also doubles for the other wing Oliver Brennand and No 8 Dylan O’Grady whilst fly half John Armstrong converted 13 of the 16 tries.

Preston Grasshoppers 23 (Tries: Barnett (28), Penalty try (62). Cons: Bailey 2. Pens: Bailey 2 (4, 48), Boshoff (33).       

Rugby Lions 37 (Tries: Waring 2 (20, 80), Handley (52), Hawken (64), Wadey (71), Hales (75). Cons: Hawken 2. Pen: Hawken (15).

What little chance Preston Grasshoppers had of catching the top two disappeared with this home defeat at the hands of Rugby Lions.   

Paul Bailey put the home side ahead with an early penalty goal which was cancelled out by James Hawken on 15 minutes for the Lions. Winger Dom Wareing went over for the games opening try on 20 minutes and Hawken converted for 10-3.

It was Hoppers who lead at half time though after centre Andrew Barnett went over for a try and Bailey converted to level it up and then Gerhard Boshoff put over a penalty goal to make it 13-10 at the half for the home side.

Bailey increased the lead early in the second half with a penalty goal but on 52 minutes the Lions were in front after a try from scrum half Toby Handley was converted by Hawken to make it 17-16.

On 62 minutes Hoppers were back in front after they were awarded a penalty try and Bailey added the extras for 23-17.

Then in the final 16 minutes the Lions produced four tries to take the match and all five points on offer with Wareing getting one of the tries to complete a double. .

  

Tynedale 67 (Tries: C Johnston (11), J Smales 2 (19, 34), Alistair Murray 2 (25, 54), Harrison (42), Vickers (66), Neville (70), Duncan (72), Rastall (76). Cons: Massey 7. Pen: Massey (40)

Darlington Mowden Park 3 (Pen: Farrar (15).

Leaders Tynedale took al five points on offer and increased their points difference by 64 points to stay top of the table.

They went in front after 11 minutes with right wing Cameron Johnston going over and Will Massey converted. Fly half Lewis Farrar pulled three points back for the visitors but three more first half tries including a double form the other winger Jack Smales saw the home side go in 29-3 ahead at the break.

Tries form centre Jack Harrison and a second from back row man Alistair Murray saw them move 43-3 ahead after 54 minutes with Massey converting them both.

They ran in four tries in the final quarter to run out comfortable winners.
