In at the Corner - National Three South

Bridgwater & Albion 43 (Tries: Edwards (35), Milroy (45), Hancock 2 (60, 71), Wulff 2 (72, 79).

Clifton 10 (Try: Spencer (43). Con: Bell. Pen: Bell (17).

HOPES of Clifton avoiding relegation back to South West One suffered a set-back as Bridgwater stormed away to victory in the second half after leading 10-3 at half time.

Full back Marshall Milroy marked his final game for Bridgwater before returning to Australia with an 18 point haul which included one of his side’s six tries.

A break from centre David Butler looked as though Clifton looked set to strike first but flanker Paul Reid was tackled in to touch just short of the line by wing Gavin Hancock.

Minutes later Clifton again missed an opportunity to get the first points on the board with a penalty from in front of the posts but fly-half Andy Bell missed the target.

Milroy put the home side in front with a penalty after 7 minutes with Bell, with the strong winds at his back, responding with one 10 minutes later.

Bridgwater were denied a couple of tries, first through prop Shane Kingsland and then through fly-half Christian Wulff, due to forward passes.

Five minutes before the break as scrum half Matt Britton put Jon Edwards away on his own 22. The wing outpaced the covering defence to score under the posts with Milroy converting.

Clifton were on level terms again shortly after the restart after stealing the ball at a lineout to set-up a move that saw wing Matt Spencer cross the line and Bell add the extras.

But after that it was all Bridgwater as they scored five unanswered tries with the first coming as Wulff gave the scoring pass to Milroy who split the defence before adding the conversion.

On the hour Milroy turned provider as Hancock was put clear for the third try. Milroy conversion was off target and he was denied a second try minutes later.

Bridgwater scored three tries in the final ten minutes with Hancock claiming his second with the bonus point try followed by two from Wulff all converted by Milroy.

Canterbury 32 (Tries: Pratt (15), Melford (23), Wolmarans (38), Keir (45), De Kock (74). Cons: Dorton 2. Pen: Dorton ((54).

Cinderford 9 (Pens: Greenaway 3 (6, 16, 34)

Canterbury went fourth after this home win over Cinderford out scoring the visitors five tries to nil.

Three first half tries saw the home side build up a 17-9 lead with three Philip Greenaway penalty goals keeping the visitors ticking over. There were tries for wingers Andy Pratt and Michael Melford whilst full back Wessels Wolmarans got the other try.

In the second half it took five minute to wrap up the bonus point try with second row Robert Keir going over and David Dorton converting. Dorton added a penalty goal before wrapping up the win on 74 minutes when he converted the fifth home try from fly half Gert De Kock.

Hertford 12 (Tries: Liffchak (46), Wood (73). Con: Howells.).

Havant 19 (Tries: Avery 2 (36, 64), Appleby (70). Cons: Ngapaku 2.

Hertford picked up a losing bonus point and with Clifton losing at Bridgwater are now two points clear of the relegation zone.

Havant were ahead but it took till the 36th minute for the opening try as winger cam Avery went over and Pucs Ngapaku converted and Havant led 7-0 at the break.

Six minutes into the second half and Hertford were level after a try form prop Aaron Liffchak and a conversion from Dan Howells.

On the hour mark Avery completed a double to move the visitors ahead again at 12-7. On 70 minutes they got a third try as replacement forward Lee Appleby went over and Ngapaku converted to make it 19-7. Three minutes later the home side got a second try as scrum half Rory Wood touched down to claim a losing bonus point.

Lydney 29 (Tries: W Jones (19), P Price 2 (36, 42), Slatter (66). Cons: Westall 3. Pen: Westall (8).

North Walsham 34 (Tries: Penalty try (1), Young (6), Thorpe 2 (14, 50), De Stackpool (25). Cons: Young 3. DG: De Stackpool (9).

Lydney saw their faint chances of getting a top two spot disappear completely with this home defeat at the hands of North Walsham.

North Walsham were in front in the opening minute when they were awarded a penalty try and Ian Young converted for a 7-0 lead. Young went over for a try on six minutes as the visitors increased their lead to 12-0.

Adam Westall pulled three points back for the home side on nine minutes but North Walsham continued their good start with a drop goal form fly half Harry de Stackpool and a try from full back Andy Thorpe converted by Young to make it 22-3.

Flanker Will Jones got a try for the home side on 19 minutes and Westall converted it. Bit on 25 minutes North Walsham went 29-10 ahead with de Stackpool going over for a try and Young converted.

Prop Paul Price got a second home try just before the break to send the home side in 29-17 down.

Price got a second try early in the second half to reduce the arrears to five points with Westall again converting.

Thorpe completed a double for the visitors to make it a 10 point lead before the home side went over for a fourth try from No 8 Ben Slatter in what turned out to be the final score of the match as North Walsham took the win and Lydney were left with a couple of bonus points.

Old Patesians 17 (Tries: Mellon (35), Pettigrew (54), Lawrence (62). Con: Nock. ).

Westcombe Park 48 (Tries: Johnson 2 (3. 66), Stenhouse 2 (18, 46), Purdy (25), Whittingham (38), Greenaway (61), Naden (80). Cons: Whittingham 3, Barnett.

WESTCOMBE Park maintained their challenge to league leaders Southend as they collected maximum points and consign Old Pats to South West One rugby next season.

The visitors scored unanswered tries in the opening quarter from openside flanker James Johnson and full back Richard Stenhouse with fly-half James Whittingham converting both.

Inside centre Graham Purdy added a third before, with centre James Spackman in the sin-bin for a technical offence, wing Chris Mellon went over the line for Old Pats.

Fly-half Rob Nock adding the extras but the visitors secured a try scoring bonus point just before the interval through Whittingham before scrum half Darren Moore was yellow carded.

Combe increased their 24-7 interval lead six minutes in to the second half with a second from Stenhouse before skipper James Pettigrew pulled one back for Old Pats.

Tighthead prop Phil Davies was the third Old Pats player to be given a ten minute cooling off period on the sidelines by referee Phil Davies this time for verbal abuse.

Just after the hour Whittingham converted a try from right wing Sam Greenaway only for Old Pats to score their third, and final try, of the afternoon through replacement Oli Lawrence.

Combe completed the rout with two more tries from openside flanker Jim Johnson and No.8 Tom Hayden with centre Graham Purdy converting the second.

Rosslyn Park 30 (Tries: Traynor (18), Odejobi 2 (65, 72). Cons: Mahony 3. Pens: Mahony 3 (35, 52, 63).

Dings Crusaders 3 (Pen: Wood (20).

Rosslyn Park are all but safe now and would need a series of strange result to get dragged back in the relegation battle after this home win over Dings Crusaders.

They went ahead on 18 minutes when right wing Duncan Traynor went over and Richard Mahony converted. Dave Woods pulled three points back for Dings two minutes later but a Mahony penalty goal saw the home side go in 10-7 ahead at the break.

Mahony pulled Park 16-3 ahead with two more penalty goals on 52 and 63 minutes. Two late tries carried them to victory as replacement back Mark Odejobi went over for a double on 65 and 72 minutes and Mahony converted both of them.

Southend 30 (Tries: Soolefai 2 (2, 34), McKeith 3 (18, 42, 55), C Green (29), Goodey (32). Cons: Frost 7.).

Chinnor 5 (Try: Pritchard (77)

Comfortable home win for leaders Southend as they maintained their two point lead at the top of the table. They ran in seven tries and winger Andrew Frost converted all seven of them.

Leading the way was fly half Ben McKeith with a hat trick of tries and there was a double for their prolific centre Faapulou Soolefai to take him to 28 tries for the season.

They were 35-0 up at the break with five converted tries. McKeith got the two second half tries to complete his hat trick but after the 55th minute they failed to add to their total.

Chinnor got the final score of the match late on when replacement John Pritchard touched down.
