In at the Corner - North One

Caldy 43 (Tries: Dickinson, Young, Wylie, Holt, Bradshaw, Bennett. Cons: Mason 5. Pen: Mason.

Hull 17 (Tries: Crew, McKenzie, Smith. Con: Martinson. .

Caldy kicked off in the hot, sunny conditions and enjoyed excellent early possession however, the early score, that looked inevitable was prevented by the hospitality hosts.  It was 18 minutes before Simon Mason was presented with a penalty kick in range and he duly slotted it over for 3 – 0.  As the penalty count against Hull progressed well into double figures 2nd Row Crew was the subject of referee Gareth Hodges displeasure and was sent to the sin bin.  From the resultant scrummage on 5 metres Same Dickinson drove over from No 8 and Simon Mason added the kick for 10 – 0.  Caldy a this stage began to motor and Craig Ross was the beneficiary of Chris Young’s hard work as he started a move on the left side and then popped up again moments later in support on the right hand side to deliver the pass for the Caldy winger to score.  Mason once again added for 17 – 0.  On 35 minutes the starting fly half for the visitors was injured and was replaced by centre Movete Otoota.  A superb angled run from Sean Woof split the Hull defence and as so often this season he unselfishly passed to Ben Wylie who was joining the line with pace from fullback and scored a superb try.  Simon Mason did the necessary and the score concluded for the interval with Caldy leading by 24 – 0.

In the second period the early score came from Hull as Crew made up for his first half indiscretion with a try for 24 – 5.  However, within a Matter of minutes Caldy redressed the balance as Matt Holt bullocked over to score and remarkably Simon Mason missed the conversion.  On 59 minutes replacement fly half Otoota was sin binned and the penalty was kicked to the corner for an inevitable catch & drive lineout and rangy Richard Bradshaw broke the whitewash Simon Mason was back on target with the conversion for 36 – 5.  the Visitors score ticked on as winger McKenzie dived over to score for 36 – 10 on 66 minutes.  A loss of concentration saw Caldy concede again via Captain Andy Smith and Fullback Martinson converted for 36 – 17.  Caldy could not finish the season on this note and produced a spell of superb phase rugby which finally produced a try for scrum half Matt Bennett.  To round off the season in style Simon Mason added the conversion for 43 – 17.  A satisfactory performance without pulling out all the stops this was a measure of how far this squad has developed in the last 12 months.
